    I'm HORRIBLE at decision-making
I'm getting my first boa next weekend at the White Plains expo. After sifting through the vendor list, I've contacted Jimi Reed at JimiSnakes. He's got 2 hypo 100% het albino 66% het anery females available, and I'm going to reserve one. However, I can't decide which one to reserve.

10drew08f has a cleaner pattern and higher contrast, while 10drew09f is darker and closer to a normal. I know the higher the contrast, the greater the demand, but at the same time I tend to prefer darker hypos to lighter ones. It's hard to say at this age, but I have a feeling 08 will become more orange with age, and I don't like orange anything XD

Should I go with the one that looks like she'll end up darker, or am I overthinking it?

Go with the one that will make you the happiest. From the looks of it, you answered your own question right here...

Eventually, yes. I start college in a year and a half, but once I graduate I'm going to breed her to an albino and if I can afford it, I'll try to prove out her anery gene.

Well, yes and no. You see I'm new to boa morphs, and I don't really know how their colors change with age. So I guess I'm more asking which of the two will end up darker.

Get the one you like! If you have the chance to 'meet' them I'd try to hold off on the exact decision then. The images are not the greatest and the snake is darker but so is the exposure and that might effect the whole thing. The other overlooked though if you are truly on the fence I'd wait to handle them and see which one was a better temperament. You never know one may just have that different special thing.

get the lighter one. not only is it lighter, but it has less 'freckles' - cleaner background
freckles tend to multiply with age

Well that would be my first choice, but the breeder said he can hold them until noon, and I'm not sure I can get to the expo by noon.

Although I guess, worst case scenario, if I'm late I can go get a normal 100% het albino from BHB....

I don't know. The title of this thread is fitting. XD

Phase? Is that like, the different phases of her shed cycle? I don't want to buy a snake because I like the way she looks when she's shedding O.o

Well regardless of all boas go thru phases. You cant stop them. What you buy now wont look the samn say 5-7 years later in the way of color. The patterns stay the samn color comes and goes. Just how it is. You also can't predict what color itll be as an adult by its baby colors either. It could be the most beautiful boa you ever saw. Could be the worst. Just hope is all you can do.

Also word to the wise if you don't like orange then a hypo isn't something you should go for.

Alright, thanks. I might end up going with the normal 100% hets from BHB then.

I like grays, really, like in a BCC, but I know all the subspecies brown out with age anyway. I like light bodies, bright tails, dark markings, and clear backgrounds. That and albinos, but I can't afford an albino at the moment. That's why I'm getting a het.

Grays. See if there are some anerys available.
For your first boa, I think you'll be happy with what ever you get. I love my boas!

Jimi is top a notch guy to deal with!

BCC would be awesome! I just got my first peruvian recently.

You say you can't afford an albino. Just keep in mind that you could run into a deal at the show.

Phase changes occur daily. They can be in a dark phase in the morning and a light phase in the evening. I've noticed that mine will be in their light phase when they are cool.

Just my two cents.... If you like albinos so much save your money and buy that. You'll never be sorry you saved and got exactly what you wanted.

Of course I prefer albino's and sunglows to any other boa morph. :D

Then a hypo boa probably isn't for you; there are tons of really neat-looking dark boas (if you're really into dark boas you might also consider looking into some different locales and subspecies, such as B. c. imperator from Nicaragua or Corn Island, or B. c. occidentalis, or B. c. longicauda. There are plenty of beautiful dark Colombians too, but it's worth looking at others). But if you really like the clean, smooth looks of the hypos, then get one. Choose whatever YOU like the looks of.

As for predicting adult colorations, the only way to do it is to look at the parents. Other than that, you can bet that the darker hatchling is going to be a darker adult, but there's no real way to tell; some hypos lighten with age, although most darken. If you want a dark hypo, go with the darker hatchling.

I would get an anery, but my favorite part of a boa is the red tail. Getting rid of that seems kind of pointless to me.

Yeah, I'd love a BCC, but everyone I talk to says to go with a BCI for a beginner.

Yeah, I can't afford an albino. I have a little over $200, and I still have to get a few more supplies for the setup, so unless I can find a female albino for about $150, it's not gonna happen. That's why I'm gonna get a het albino female now and an albino male after college.

I do like albinos, but I really want to go to the expo. If I was able to earn $400 in the few months I had, I would definitely go for the albino. But I'm alright with having a het and waiting a few years to get a hom.
