    Spied Question
Hello! Im new to the forum and glad to be here!
I just bought my first '10 pied male from pro exotics and he is arriving next week! (super exited)
Im going to be getting into breeding ball pythons in the future and am investing in my morphs.
Anyways I came across a female spider 100% het for pied for $1100
Now the fantasic percentages in a clutch by mixing a pied with a spider het for pied is very exciting to me.
Im just wondering if the female spider het for pied is a good deal or if more will come along and if i should wait to get one. She is a '10 baby at 400 grams if i remember right. And also I couldnt find any price ranges for Spieds, I dont know if theres a market for them or not? If anyone has any input on the matter I would greatly appreciate it!
    Thank you!

I'm sure there might be a market for them but the Spieds I've seen have a head pattern and are 98% white. I don't see the purpose of investing a ton of money into that project. It seems some morphs make the pieds 95%+ white so you're investing in a snake with no pattern. That seems counter productive to me. I'd much rather see something like a Enchi Pied. I'm not big on white snakes anyhow so take this with a grain of salt. I think you would be much smarter to invest in a trio of 100% het females for less money than you are spending on one snake since your male could possibly breed with 3-5 females. Just my $.02...

    Regards,

    B

    Ok good!
Thats all I wanted to know. :)
I like your suggestion about investing the money in a trio of het for pieds instead of one snake. I just came across this snake and gave it thought anyways.
I would agree with you. Just wanted to see what someone else would say.

I agree with B & disagree with B! But, I kinda know him! LOL! I agree that getting two or three het females would be better. But, I disagree because I LOVE PIED BP's & he doesn't! LOL!!! I'm actually trying to pick up a 2010 Pied myself! But, working on the final amount of $$$$!!!

putting your two points together - what will an enchi spied look like?

stinger head on a 98% white pied
stinger head on a 98% solid yellow pied
stinger head on an enchi patterned and coloured pied

    just a thought! ;)

There are a lot of people excited about mixing an enchi pied with a spied..I can't wait to see what we get when those breedings hatch out!

I would say get 100% het pied girls, they will give you the same combos. spiders are AWESOME- but! I suspect spieds are not on everyone's list because they don't show too much pattern. i personally LOVE pieds and i would dink around and try to make a spied since I have a male spider now, but it's not a huge priority for me... I'm much more psyched about pastel pied

I personally love the Spider Piebalds. If you do too, jump on that spider het pied female. It's a good deal for a 400 gram 2010. You can probably get a better deal once the 2011s start hatching, but then again, you'd be a year behind on your project as well.

There is a lot to be said for not putting all your eggs in one basket so I agree that three females would be better than relying on one for production. However, I also really like the spied look. The ones with just the color on the head really are striking to me and even the solid white pieds are very interesting as I understand the white is cleaner than the leucistics.

Well the spider het pied would be in addition to my het females.
Just wasnt sure if it was a smart investment of expensive $1100 or not. I could just buy a pied female for that price and produce 100% pieds, if i was going to spend that much on one snake.
Like I said I couldnt find any info on how much Spieds are selling for.
I think Ill just stick with getting my het females for now and work on my pied babies, I probably wont be breeding until spring '13 the way Im buying these young babies. But it is super exciting to be able to watch them grow and know that these snakes make up my future breeders.
Thanks for all your guys' inputs! Greatly Appreciated!

I love the look of the Spied as I love the high whites. I'm also looking forward to producing an all-white Spied.

As can be seen here with a Mojave Pied and very white Super Mojave. :gj:

The only thing that steers me away from Spiders is the head wobble but other than that they make some fantastic combos.

I'd say it boils down to personal preference, how you feel about the look of the Spied. I love the look of the them and can't wait to try to make some myself. http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...pider-het-Pied
The pairing can lead to Spieds, Pieds, Spiders het for Pied and normals het for Pied. I personally believe that is a strong pairing buisness wise.
To give you an idea of what Spied prices are right now you can check out Steve Roussis's websitehttp://www.roussisreptiles.com/available.html Just remember these prices will likely decrease by time you'd possibly see a Spied head peaking out of an egg.

Another thing I feel is important is you've got to really trust the person selling the Spider as het for Pied. There is no way of telling if it's really is het unless you spend years raising her and then breeding her to prove her out. Which can be a big waste of time and money if she proves not to be really het.

$6k for a spied ball is pretty good. I would be looking at probably the 2013 year when im to be breeding (2012 if im lucky) and I cant imagine spieds would dip SO low, but if i could get at least $1k for a baby that would make me happy, not to mention all the money coming from the hets. I just love the outcome of having 4 different possiblities in babies, and all of them being hets for pied or pied themselves.
I think i could trust the person, he has one of those high end websites and seems like hes a part of the herp community, he has pics of the baby spider het for pied with the other siblings as hatchlings and current photos.
Belive me thats the one thing i hear the most is being scammed by someone lying about a het...I dont want it to happen.
