bp's are turning me into a carpenter!
This is the first thing that I ever built out of wood, so I had to share a few pictures:)

Hillbilly snake rack!!!! (28 qt tubs)

    My work area!

Tip: My saw horses turned into my work light tripod. 2 x 4's were great for cutting by yourself. If you cut with saw horses you really need a helper. Oh and a Black n Decker 14 volt circular saw is not going to cut it. LOL

The kitchen table and wall are great helpers!

Newspaper works great as shims so that the tubs slide out nice

My only mistake is: I can't move it. LOL It weighs a lot more than me. I will have to wait for someone to visit to move it into the snake room.:P

Great job and looks like it'll serve you very well for years to come. And with the Black and Decker not cutting it, that's all the more reason to buy new power tools, lmao! :D

Did you paint the exposed fiberboard or use melamine iron on edging?

Yeah, I looked everywhere for sheets of melamine that was thinner than 3/4". I did not have any luck.

I'm not going to add heat yet. I'm planning on heating the entire room instead. I only put 3 nails in the back. Just in case I want to add heat in the future.
I don't know how well wheels will work because the room has carpet. It's a great idea, and I'm still considering it.:)

    Thanks Dave!
Yeah, I don't think I'll have any buyers. It will work for me though. I'm lucky because I live by myself. Otherwise that whole kitchen table thing might of got me into some trouble. LOL

Bigger wheels (casters) will roll on carpet, that is one case where bigger is better!!
Mine are turning me into a liar!!:O
I have been telling my wife for years that I cannot build her a kitchen nook and now she has seen me do the enclosures and today I just finished adding a/c to our shed for the rats too:D

I wish I could put my rats in my shed! I share my laundry room with them. My shed would cost me a fortune to heat in Ohio weather because it needs some work. I need a lot more practice before I start that project. LOL

Re: bp's are turning me into a carpenter!
I got a few more done! My new snake room can hold a total of 10 28qt tubs and 36 6 qt tubs so far! I don't have any babies yet, but I'm prepared for lots! I think I have enough wood to build another baby rack tomorrow. I'm going to keep my breeding rack in my office. It holds 32 41qt tubs. Its nothing fancy, but works. I'm planning on moving all my boys and smaller females to the new snake room so that my office rack can be all females that are breeding weight! As soon as Menards puts melamine on sale again, I'll stock up!:)

My new snake room so far!

I'm planning on heating the whole room with a 1500 watt oil filled heater hooked up to a thermostat. I ran 11" flex watt back heat on one of the baby racks before I decided on heating the whole room.

I run 3" flex watt tape on my office rack as belly heat and it works great on 41qt tubs.

    Just a suggestion.

Belly heat under everything to avoid RI problems heating the whole room is not enough.

You can keep the whole room warm but you will still need some 3 or 4" flex watt under each tub. just a helpful suggestion to keep you from running into any problems.:)

I know a few bp breeders personally who heat the hole room with success. I only put a couple nails on the backs though just in case I want to add heat tape. I'll see how it goes.;)

If the whole room is heated to a certain temp. how do your snakes thermoregulate? They won't be able to move to a cooler side.

    just curious,

Depending on where the probe and heater are located it is possible to create a temperature variance in a room. It is not going to be as extreme as a cage with bottom heat, but if set up right can be a difference of 3-5 degrees.

The trick with heating the whole room is finding the temperature that works.

I know that vpi's book states that they keep their subadult and growing ball pythons at 80-82 degrees without any supplemental heat.
