I really hate people right now.
Today at college, I sat in the hall NEXT to my class (about half an hour before it began), turned on my laptop and started talking to a friend on skype (video and audio) and was typing as well. Some a$$hat ran down the hall, stooped over, snatched the laptop out of my hands, and kept going. Not suprisingly, I yelled and screamed and chased him down the hallway and out of the building...where a CAR was waiting for him with a driver in the front seat and the engine was on. So I am hanging on to him, trying to pull him down and he hops in the back seat with me still hanging on and screaming for help...and loads of less than polite things. Out of the maybe 5 onlookers, one tried to help but was too far away. The campus police are no where to be found as per usual. Anyway, I'm hanging on to the guy, jogging alongside the car, trying to yank him out and he yells "Let go, !" and the driver floors it and I get dragged a bit (barely at all) before I lose my grip on his hoodie.

So I go back in...you know, angry. Pacing. Punching the wall every so often. Now there is a crowd of people waiting for me that heard all of the commotion. They swarm me, ask questions, touch me (I don't really like to be touched, but I understand that they were being nice), etc. They have already calledcampus police. No one arrives for 15 minutes. Let me reiterate: The CAMPUS police that are RIGHT NEXT TO WHERE THIS HAPPENED don't show up for 15 minutes. The guys are long gone. So ONE of them shows up, askes me stuff, I file a report. She takes me to their office. She, I must admit, was nice and helpful. But the man that was asked to check the security footage...I kind of wanted to pop him one. He would not allow me in the room while he looked at the footage...which I am not even angry about. I find it STRANGE that he would not let me see, but I am not angry about that. No, I am angry about the fact that he yelled and got pissy about it and sent me out. Shortly there after he startes to look...sees me riding my longboard in the hall (thirty minutes prior to getting my stuff stolen) a launches into a tirade about how he doesnt know if i have read the rules or whatever and how that is not allowed. Ok, ok, fine. While the longboard was on campus with permission for a class assignment, i should not have been rolling around in the hall, albeit slowly. I admit that I was wrong for that.

But what the hell does that have to do with the issue at hand? Not a thing! It was not pertinent in the least and he FIXATED on it and lectured me instead of doing what he was told.He could have lectured me AFTER finding what he was supposed to be looking for! So then his phone rings and he giggles to his friend. Tells him or her that he was not busy "No, I can talk and do this.". Clearly he could not because he stopped looking!!! And then someone just SENT him the footage and he has the audacity to tell me that it will be DAYS before he us done looking at it??? THEY SENT IT TO HIM DIRECTLY! He did not even have to find it...it was right THERE!!!! What the hell is that going to take DAYS? You press "play" and watch it. You zoom in, look at our pixelated faces. "Oh look, there he is.". FML. Seriously.

    I'm so sorry.
I know how it feels when police fail.
Somebody stole my mom's purse at Fred Meyer's two years ago. The part of the store they were in didn't have cameras, so no footage.
However, the thieves went 3 blocks away to a K-mart and bought $500 worth of stuff with the cash for x-mas presents in my mom's purse. It was an older man and a younger woman. They used my mom's ID, got away without the clerk noticing the photos didn't match, and then went to the ATM up ahead in the store and tried to withdraw money, but didn't know the pin number.
All of this was caught in clear picture, with closeups, from the K-mart security cameras.
The police didn't do anything, even though they had a clear view of their faces. The manager of
K-mart even said himself, "You can't get a clearer close up of somebody's face."
They wanted nothing to do with it. On top of that my mom's cell phone, which they had in the purse, had a GPS tracking device in it. We located the exact coordinates they were at, and the police grudgingly went to the place--it was a run down apartment not far from the stores the crime happened at.
The police couldn't do more than to knock on doors and ask people if they had the purse. -.-
Yeah, 'cause if criminals just told police "Yup, I took it!" when they knocked on a door, I would've been there "asking" myself.
I guess after all that, it's not enough for a search warrant--or they didn't care, the police.
Either way, we got one present that year, a used pawned off Wii that my parents were planning to buy games for a the store, but no games for it since they had made off with the money. :(
The thieves, however, got a new surround sound system, jewelry including watches, earrings, and rings, amongst other things.
    :weirdface
So, I know your pain. I'm so sorry. :(

Dude that blows...there's really know words.

Sometimes people get pissy and I think "Stop Whining!!""

But dude, you officially have every right to be pissed. That hyper sucks. I thought I had a crappy day.

Hope it gets resolved and the punks are caught and smacked around abit.

Sorry--I wasn't making it about me :( It was meant to just let you know you're not the only one cops fail on. :tears:
Sorry :( didn't mean to steal the thread.

If you're really calling campus security cops. There is your first mistake! Beat cops are pretty lame! That's why I'm glad I am SRT. I know it's only with the Army. But, I have the training to do all the cool stuff and have gotten to do it a few times! I hate thieves and that is why I carry a concealed weapon. I'll shoot da fool in the leg then take the lecture for shooting him. Or blame it on PTSD or whatever that stuff they say I have from spending over 3 years of my life in Iraq!

I am thinking of investing in a can of bear mace. I really don't want to go back if I cannot be relatively safe right next to my class, but I don't really have much of a choice. So, I am reading the laws around here regarding pepper spray. So far it seems to be completely legal if one is 18+ years of age. And I won't be sitting in the halls waiting for my classes anymore. I'll probably sit in the admissions office from now on or something (I have a two hour gap between my 3rd and 4th class and no car). Thank you all for your replies and I apologize for the language.

That story made me absolutely RAGE. Did you ever get a license plate number from the inept campus "cop"? I also think that there is a method to acquire rights to see the footage. If you filed a police report, you can usually demand to see the tapes (at least, that's how it works here).

I hope you find those bastards and bring them down. e_e

We have a partial license plate number that one of the onlookers wrote down. Someone else looked through the video and got a very good shot of his face. They are trying to see if he is a student. I really hope that he is. It would make things SO much easier.

ugh man Igby...saying that your situation truly sucks would just be repeating what's already been said numerous times but dang, there's almost nothing else to say...
'cept, um, yeah dont put so much faith and expectations into the campus security...they almost never take their job seriously. i mean, it's sad cuz they're there for a reason and ya'll SHOULD be able to rely on them in such times of need as yours but sadly the majority of them fail.
now, i was raised by a town sheriff and although i'd love to say something nice about all of them the simple truth is some of THEM dont take their job serious enough either but from my experience it's been alot of the older one's who are just waiting to retire and end up not really caring too much.
they're not ALL that way though and it saddens me when people decide to hate the entire police population over the mistakes of a few.
but Igby, good luck with finding the guys. :gj:

Igby, sorry doesn't cut it but I really am sorry that happened to you in the first place and then that you were treated how you were. That's unacceptable. Like mommanessy said though, not all cops are useless or otherwise don't take their job seriously. Like a lot of things (reptile owners, for instance!), it only takes a few turds in the punch bowl to ruin people's perceptions. I'm a cop and work with some incredible people and some incredibly lazy slobs who are getting paid to do nothing. Please, whatever you do, don't lump all cops together as doughnut eating blobs who don't care at all about their fellow human beings, as that isn't the case for most of us.

I'm not sure of your area of the country, but where I live, the both of those clowns would be looking at multiple felonies including criminal recklessness for almost dragging you down the street with their car. Hopefully the campus cops get the hint and actually do something worthwhile with their investigation; if not, you could always request a copy of the report and if need be file a Freedom of Information Act request if they aren't cooperative in giving you one. If no report was completed, you could take it up with the city or county level of law enforcement, as those agencies would have jurisdiction over the campus as well or with the county or city attorney's office, whoever prosecutes criminal cases in your area as to why no follow-up was conducted to investigate the crime(s).

I'm really sorry for the situation and that the people employed to take care of those things did a less than stellar job helping you. Let us know how it turns out and take care!

Yes, I know. I won't lump all cops together, I was just really angry. I was supposed to get a copy of the report yesterday (I was specifically told to come in and get it yesterday) and when I got to the school only one officer was there and most of the lights were off. I asked him about my report and he informed me (while playing solitare) that the guy who is in charge of all of the reports (the guy who wouldn't take the time to look at the surveillance video...fml) was off yesterday and won't be back until Monday, so I guess I will get it then. I don't see why he'd tell me to come get it the next day when it was his day off.

Wow...! That sounds like incompetence at it's finest! I'd be talking to the Chief or barring that, the university/school president about the lack of response you've gotten with their officers. That's a load of crap. It's called public service for a reason, for cryin' out loud! :rage:

Keep at it and I sincerely hope they do something about it other than give it a cursory glance and call it good. Good luck, man!

    I'm sorry this occurred.

If you want the university to help, you may have to show them how you could cause this to become bad publicity for the university. If nothing else will get them to pay attention, the notion of protecting their image will. Everything that you posted about this within your first post needs to be taken above the heads of the campus police. Contact your local media, and mention to your campus that you have done so. Do not be directly threatening, but you should not waver from your stance. Also it is very important that you follow through with any actions that you state you will take. Demonstrate that under no uncertain terms, that this crime will reflect poorly upon the university.

Oh my gosh that is absolutely ridiculous. I can't believe the campus police aren't doing anything about it. Is there a way you can get the real police involved. I know campus police are a bit of joke....

Good luck with everything. I would be furious!

Re: I really hate people right now.
That is terrible on so many levels. The fact that no one helped is disgusting then on top of that the rent-a-pig can't even do their job. If it is a private company I would file a complaint with his supervisor and that persons supervisor, if they work for the school I would get a meeting with the dean or who ever the highest person you can get access to.

As far as the justice system goes it is every where.
I wrecked my moms car when I was about 17. I was on my way home from school a guy pulled out in front of me I swerved to miss him and lost control. He left the scene and went to an electrical shop, my dad happened to know the guy. Any way long story short I give the DA his address, drivers license #, Name, license plate, and his name they tell me there is nothing they can do and I am wasting their time...

A friend of mine adopted a girl who was brutally molested from the age of 4 to about 8 by her step-dad. The DA has a book about the case and lost it! 6 years later (last week) they find it and decide to prosecute.

I live in the country and I carry at least one pistol in my pocket and a rifle or shotgun in my vehicle. I have a firearm in every room and by each entry door in my house. I am not afraid/paranoid but I do know that there will be no one there when my family needs protection, everyone in my house knows how to safely operate all of our guns even my son.
