i have eggs and mites! help!
adopted a female i was told might be gravid... she showed no signs of it after a while i gave up. I was originally going to go the maternal incubation route.... i had a snake come down with mites somehow and it spread to my collection... went to treat her today and low and behold, 4 shiny white eggs. How do i treat the momma and eggs? i dont hve an incubator! help!
Re: i have eggs and mites! help!
treating mom now... what do you suggest i do after that? it looks like there may be one slug... no veins and looks wet. should i seperate it from the rest or leave it and watch it? obviously i need to remove the eggs from her nest and throw that tub away... is it safe to put them and her on a paper towel in the middle of the tub and leave them be? What a disasterous first clutch :(

I have no doubt that your female would brood the eggs without any trouble all the way to their hatching so long as her enclosure provides adequate temp and humidity for her. :) In fact, maternal incubation is the only method I use with my balls. My concern would be with the active agents in mite treatments. They might cause problems for the embryos in the eggs. If mites are present, they will continue feasting and multiplying on your female and she can't easily fight her maternal instincts to alleviate the discomfort by prolonged soaks in water.

I AGREE. i am keeping a close eye on her. Temps and humidity in the tub i have her in are near perfect. i think we will be ok... but we shall see.

Just curious if you ever PM'd Heather? She offered her help to you, and if I were you, I wouldn't turn that offer down, not with a keeper like Heather!
