    quick question.
soooooo ive has this normal female for about a year now she was my first snake and shes never really been a good eater she will eat maybe every 3 weeks or so...

i offer her jumbo mice every week but she just wont touch them for a couple weeks witch turns into me having a pet mouse for a couple weeks.
its kinda getting annoying i hate having mice they make my room smell terrible lol

soooo my question to you guys is.... is there any way of making a fairly slow eating snake to take prey more often

oh i forgot to mention that shes my oldest snake shes a 09 baby and shes only like 800g... shes not skinny or anything shes just petite.

    thanks in advance,
    Mike H.

Double check your husbandry and try offering her food at dusk or dawn as these are the times BP's come out to look for food in the wild.

the husbandry is perfect... im am currently un-employed so i have nothing better to do other than do little tweeks to my temps and stuff until its perfect... lol.

and i always try feeding right before it gets dark out so dusk-ish and all my other bps are feeding perfect. like as soon as they see the rat pups they go nuts and start stiking at everything lol the two new guys i got are my most agressive feeders, more agressive than my tegu lol:rolleye2:

Do you have a hot spot for the snake to lay on and digest and if so what do you keep the hot spot at?

I have some snakes that eat much better early in the morning and some that eat better just before lights out at night and some that will eat any time of the day, have you tried mixing up the time of day you feed?

X2 I agree. Also sometimes they just don't want to eat. Give her a week or two and offer again.

yes i have a hot spot its at a constant 92f and the ambient temps are at 78f-80f. pretty much all day long i think they drop a little at night time but only a degree or so.

and yes i have tryed every time of the day.

its deffinatly not my husbandry i always keep up with everything constantly also all of my snakes are in the same rack and its all on the same thermostat.

im just asking if anyones got any little tricks or something that will help her get on a better feeding program.

Do you ever pre-scent the room or her container? Are you offering just mice or rats too? You might want to try both. Another thing would be to try F/T and after you warm it up leave it in her cage and do not disturb. Just a few ideas! Good luck!

yes i pre scent the room.. and she will not go near rats shes like terrified of them. as soon as she sees them she just turns the other way and hides her head under her body... so ive been feeding her jumbo mice. she has never eaten F/T and she also refuses pre killed mice or rats. idk whats wrong with her. maybe i should buy her some snake sausages:rolleye2: lmao

Perhaps she was attacked by a rat at one time. Even though she is big I would try a smaller mouse; she may need to work back up to bigger prey. If she snaps a small mouse right up, give her a second, and a third. She may be just scared of bigger prey.

I have tryed smaller prey items but she just doesnt seem interested...

like i said in the original post she will eat every 2-3 week but i jut want to know if theres any ways to get her to take meals more often like is there something i can do to the mice? like ive heard about putting chicken broth on them but she wont eat pre killed and if she doesnt end up eating it im gunna end up having to give a mouse a bath lol
