New camera lens came in today!
Re: New camera lens came in today!
A low white pied? :tongue2:
The pics look really good to me. I can't help you on the white camera issues, it's all a foreign language to me. :) But, great pics!

It's a Canon Rebel T1i and I just got a macro lens. I was not expecting how far I would have to stand back to be able to fit the entire snake into the pic. It's rather annoying :/

With a Macro lens, you're supposed to get SMALL detail in the pic. The point of a Macro is to do like you did with the last picture. :gj: A macro allows you to get such high detail. Try doing that same picture as the last one with the 18-55mm kit lens on the Rebel. Your camera won't be able to focus unless you're about 18 inches away. With a Macro, you can get incredibly close, and yet still have the lens focus properly. ;)
If you want something that will encompass the whole snake, look at a wide angle lens, that can go 17mm or less, such as a 12 or 15mm prime lens. :)

Yea I know, this is why I wanted the macro lens. I guess I was just a bit naive in thinking that I could get the best of both worlds for the price.
Whatever. I'm going to make this thing work :P

In time you will get better. Don't be afraid to get close with that lens. Like REALLY CLOSE. You should be able to take a pastel's eyes and be able to see just how vibrant the green is in those big glassy eyes. (Just for example.) Also, read read read. A lot of people don't know that's one of the keys to getting better at photography. :gj:
Re: New camera lens came in today!
Nice pictures and I agree your white balance is a little off but not bad. The best way to really see your work is having a quality screen and making sure your screen is color calibrated.
If you decide to ever get a a new screen and want the best bang for your buck check out this on and it comes with a color calibrater!!

Other than the white balance you should not have to adjust the saturation or contrast etc.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to do some reading lol. I don't even know how light my room properly.
Thanks for the tips.
Re: New camera lens came in today!
I'm just going to have to start using my flash in my snake room until I get some better light set up. This one turned out 100% better!

I thought so too until I tried it with flash on that 2nd attempt. I would have gotten one straight on but he wasn't really in to the photo shoot

I always use macros for over all shots and close ups typically they are so much better than the kit zooms. If I was looking into the next thing I recommend a good TTL flash continuous lighting for moving subjects and macro is limited where flash you can have as much power as needed.
Here is my flash light 'tent' I designed for a jeweller. It is fast and super simple and looks reasonably good.

Here's a nice gadget for setting up a custom white balance for your camera http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...tal_White.html
I also been shooting all my images using either my Nikkor 60mm micro or my 105mm, I'm not a professional photographer by any means but I'm happy with my results.

you can do the same thing with the lid to a pringles can.
read this on white balance:

Re: New camera lens came in today!
Great pictures! I have the exact same camera and always have trouble with the white balance. I can't get it right even when I set custom white balance. Adjusting the shutter speed helped more for me.
My biggest problem is that my pictures look fine on the camera, but they show up on my computer too dark.:( Does yours do the same thing?

I think there was a bit too much light adjustment because of the light tent. Here he is with just flash and one of him next to my lesser boy. He is browning out nicely with every shed ;)

I don't think so, sorry. My LCD is pretty accurate as far as I can tell.

Wow! Beautiful collection Adam!!! I'm so jealous of your Desert Spider :P.
I'm still getting the feel for my T1i too. We'll have to have a photography outing one day:D.
Re: New camera lens came in today!
For sure! I'll definitely be bringing it for the first field herping excursion.
