Snakes and Xrays
Hey guys,
I heard that if your snake goes through an xray it becomes sterile, is that true? So if I ship the snakes, won't the package go through an xray machine for sure?
Thanks!

I don't think thats right. I dont know for a fact, but Im fairly certain that can't be true. They do x-rays on snakes to see if they are egg bound. And peeople ship snakes all the time and then breed them. Im gonna have to call foul on this one. Someone else chime in though, please

This would be a good question to ask people who ship international, I'm sure customs do x-rays, and I don't see this being correct. But please correct if I am wrong.
-
No one has an actual answer for this?
-
Clearly not, but Lgray has offered an excellent idea as to where you might find the information you're seeking.

yeah but then there is the issue of not knowing who ships internationally, as I don't order snakes from online

Re: Snakes and Xrays
X-rays also make humans sterile, but that doesnt mean a quick X-ray for a few seconds at the hospital makes you permanently sterile. I cant see this being any different for snakes.

Re: Snakes and Xrays
Yep,
I call foul on that one too - it's not like customs are blasting it with massive doses in the hope of recreating the hulk in snake form. :)

Although that would be cool... lol
And just for reference, the hulk was created with gamma radiation..not xrays...and now I feel like a nerd..

Lol,
I stand corrected. :salute:

Id Think the snake would have to be being x-rayed for quite a long time. I have a friend who's vet did a couple X-rays on his boa when it was quite young. I'm not sure
Of the actual reason I'll ask though. But he to this day is a great breeder for him.

All great answers, not my thread, but I thank everyone anyway :)
