What a horrible way to start my Monday..
Apparently, though we've been paying rent monthly which includes utilities, our landlord hasn't been paying the utilities. So, my Monday morning has begun with a fight with an Edison worker who just shut off our electricity. It's a very cold day, and I'm in a panic hoping the heat in my room holds until we get the power back on, for the sake of my ball pythons.
I just love untrustworthy landlords who take your money and screw you over. Apparently, this has been happening for months, but we haven't gotten any notices from Edison because they are sent to the landlord. He owes $1795 on the electricity alone.

    Just need to vent :(

Sorry to hear that. It sure makes me mad to be penalized for a mistake that wasn't yours. Who needs these type of problems.... I really hope that your day gets better.....

Exactly, it's not our fault yet we're the ones with two fridges full of food that can go bad and two ball pythons who need heat :( Life's not fair.
I've put blankets over both tubs, hopefully it'll help.

I feel your pain - I only just got away from my landlord who did something similar.

    With the mortgage. :taz:

It ended up with the flat getting reposessed with me still in it. :weirdface

Still have hot water? Maybe you can wrap a thin towel around a warm bottle as a heat source.

:O Ouch.. hopefully that doesn't happen to us. We've already had our water shut off three times and this is the second time our electricity was shut off. The last times we were able to pay the companies directly, bit $1800... yeah right.

I'm moving to Vegas in June, luckily.

Unfortunately I think that is a pretty common thing. Make sure you call you local housing authority and report him, also I would contact any one having to do with the rental property and notify them of his failure to pay his bills causing problems for you.

Hope it gets fixed and I would start looking for another house ASAP and refuse to pay rent (which may cause you to end up in court) until the matter is resolved. Check with your local housing authority on what repercussions you have and follow through with them. Money issues or not your paying your bills so he should have no problem with passing along the money.

The Landlord probably is not paying the mortgage either. At leas for now since the light bill is in the landlords name. I would call the eletricity company and tell them you just moved in and want to connect the light. The money that is owed goes on the landlords name so he/she is responsible for it.

Edison told us we cant transfer tue bill into our name untip the 1800 is paid. Luckily, we're all moving from this house this summer. Though, I would love to take him to court, a lot goes into that whole process, and I'll be leaving the state in three months.
