1st eggs!
http://i371.photobucket.com/albums/o...23-2011708.jpg
I just have to get them in an incubator! I wasn't really prepared for them as I didn't catch any of the tell-tell signs, it is my first time out after all.
Momma is a big pretty pastel and daddy is a nice Mojo so maybe we will get some really really nice pastaves :please:
Just wanted to share, any advice would be fantastic and greatly appreciated.

Re: 1st eggs!
Cool! Good luck with the odds gods!!

I incubate at 90 degree's. I use 1:1 vermiculite:water ratio. Usually about 250 grams of both is perfect.
Oh yeah...
Grats on the eggs!

Have you tried candling them yet?
And fingers crossed for the pastaves.

I have not tried candling them yet, to be honest I am afraid to touch them
Maybe I should stop being chicken and just get em. What do you guys use to candle? Just a bright flashlight would probably work?

Hope you have some surprises popping their heads out in the not so distant future.
Set them up then try to leave them alone to incubate, after about 4 weeks check to make sure the incubation medium is not drying out, its ok to add some water if it needs it just be careful to not pour it directly on the eggs.

Re: 1st eggs!
So I checked their temps the other day and she is keeping them @ 89.5* - 91* so I think I am just going to let her incubate them, is there any reason I shouldn't.
-
Re: 1st eggs!
I would indeed use an incubator for a project like this...Problem is not the temps but the humidity and using an incubator with eggs placed in vermiculite in a box gives the right humidity so the eggs dont dry out..
Just in case you dont know this, Dont turn the eggs when you move them into the incubator (If you choose to do so) , they have to be in the same position as mom put them, otherwise they also go bad.
Just my thoughts :)
Congrats on the nice clutch :)

Congrats, and best of luck!

Re: 1st eggs!
I was concerned with the humidity as well so I figured if I put some sphagnum moss in there it would help with the humidity. I know I don't want 100% humidity with momma being in there but if I bumped it up to 80% that should keep them happy, unless I am terribly mistaken.

There are quite a few threads here on maternal incubation. I would advise you to go through them and then make the choice for yourself :) I use an incubator because I like knowing that they are in the perfect conditions for hatching out perfect babies, but thats me :) Good luck and congrats on the eggs :gj:

Re: 1st eggs!
Awesome...congrats! Best of luck with hatching out some healthy babies and hopefully a few Pastaves!
My first clutch of eggs are technically due today! The excitement is unbearable!
-
Congrats on eggs! I'm in the same "first timer" boat! Grats and hopefully you get some Pastave love!

Re: 1st eggs!
Ok I've done some research and based on >this thread< and >This Link< I am going to let the momma brood them and keep a close eye on the temps and humidity.
Thanks for all of the help and advice it is greatly appreciated.

Good luck! And keep us posted on how they are doing :gj:

Re: 1st eggs!
Just went and cleaned mommas tub, put down paper towels instead of newspaper because it sounded more comfortable to me :P
I candled all the eggs, they all had good veins but I couldn't see much more and was afraid I was hurting them so I put them back down and got one unhappy momma back in her tub. She was still staring me down after I closed the drawer.
That's the update see you guys tomorrow when I think of something else.

I wouldn't make too many changes in her tub or remove her from the clutch unless absolutely necessary. If she doesn't feel like her nest is safe, she'll abandon it.

Re: 1st eggs!
I was cleaning tubs and got everyone out and was looking them over, well it looks like I should be expecting eggs from a second momma. Ill keep everyone up with a possible clutch #2.

congrats!!!! and good luck!!

It's good to hear positive stories of letting the momma do it her self. I still feel better with mine in a incubator, I don't have a setup to keep those temps and humidity that perfect in there own habitat. Good luck and congrats on the eggs! Hoping for your pataves!
