Why Can't I Find Any Red Tails For Sale?!
I've looked all over google and on breeders websites. There are barely any for sale and the ones that are for sale are waaayyyyy out of my price range. Is it not breeding season or something?

I remember reading something a while back on boa breeding seasons. If I remember correctly, it runs from about October-February, and once the female becomes gravid, it is about a 4-5 month process from then, which is why most boas give birth in the mid-late summer. If I can find where I read that, I'll post the link.

I found it. Here is the link where I read it...

    Hope this helps.

I've also noticed that Red Tails are hard to find period it seems like. I'm not sure if this is due to lack of market for them since everyone seems to be going after morphs and constrictors lately. My first choice was actually a Red Tail but like you the few I could find were out of my price range, and I found they were not as good of a beginer snake.

One breeded did tell me that everyone, including pet stores, are short on supply right now because of the breeding season. They're waiting for the new eggs to hatch.

Just in-case you didn't know boas give birth to live young they do not lay eggs.

Re: Why Can't I Find Any Red Tails For Sale?!
As I hinted in my post above. There are boas that lay eggs. Not from the boinae subfamilies, but a boa by any other name.

At least three erycine species lay eggs:

The Calabar Boa, (Calabaria reinhardtii) (once classified as a python for this reason)
The Arabian Sand Boa, (Eryx jayakari)
The West African Sand Boa, (Eryx muelleri).

    The sub species are:
    Eryx (Sand boas)
    Gongylophis (Rough-tailed Sand Boa)
    Charina (Rubber Boas)
    Lichanura (Rosy boa)
    Calabarinae (Calabar)

I finally got frustrated and searched Craigslist, hoping I'd find a snake there - though it's usually the last place I look. I got lucky and found a reasonably priced, healthy baby RTB from someone who was scared of her because she's a little nippy still.

So you may have luck there if you can't find any elsewhere....but always be cautious getting any animal off of Craigslist.
