I didn't like handling them either (although I never really had too much of a fear), but then one day at an expo my sister dared me to handle one:D. I'm glad I did, it was a really cool experience. Actually, here's a photo I took of that moment:

And here's a photo of me handling my P. imperator

Re: Coolio's Entire Tarantula Collection!
You are HARDCORE! I am a guy and I am freaked out by spiders, like I can't even be near a daddy long legs (yes I know they are not arachnids) I couldn't imagine having to hold one or let alone willingly pick one up.

Oh my, that sure is a lot of creepy crawlers! Like I said once before, spiders are awesome, but they just creep me out! They are very beautiful though Tiff! That scorpion is just cool, a little scary looking, but very cool!

LOL Thank you:D! Yeah lots of people seem to be a bit more uneasy towards the tarantulas, it's totally understandable though. I would never push someone into handling a tarantula (especially since all are venomous, but I have all New World T's which don't have venom potent enough to harm us) or even a snake.

Thank you very much:D! Honestly, with T's in my point-of-view, "too much" is not enough LOL. I'm still shocked by how easy it is to care for them.
I should be acquiring a few more T's by this weekend along with a Tri-Colored Burrowing Scorpion.:)

I've never been this creeped out on the internet before =P. Your insane!!! Those spiders and scorpion are very cool tho :O

I like ur snakes & scorpion...but NO on da spiders!!!!
-
LOVE THEM ALL!!! and I love the name Fluffy!!

Awesome T's! Lovin' the Avic(Nice fang shot), my favorite species. Though my favorite is the Avicularia Versicolor. :]
-
Certain ones I know you can handle, others I'm not too familiar with.
The Brachypelma are either a hit or miss and I know they like to flick hairs.
When I owned a G. Rosea I used to handle her all the time, same with the Pink Toe(A. Avic).
As far as holding an Emperor, I'd be more worried about being pinched then stung, as that's their first means of defense. I've heard an Emperor can crack a pencil(though I'm unsure of how true that is) and the sting isn't any worse then that of a bee as the excitement hurts more.
You just have to know what you're doing and be comfortable and familiar with species and how they react to certain things, a general rule to scorpions/tarantulas is once they're on your hands, your hand = the ground. They don't sting the ground so if you're switching from hand to hand then make sure you keep your hand flat with whatever else.
However I would never recommend to anybody to hold scorpions and/or Tarantulas because you might be allergic and not know it.
Edit:
Great pictures Tiff :P

Thank you:D!!! Fluffy seems to fit my Avic :). And for a little edit, the Avic is actually a female, not a male :P.

Very good post here, something to definitely take in consideration.
Yeah my smithi only has kicked hairs a little more than a few times but out of being spooked. Other than that she's been great. My emilia is a little hyper, and a hair kicker. Hopefully she settles in just fun so she doesn't have to keep kicking hairs at me :P.
I agree!! I always watch those claws, always. One time he actually slightly squeezed the tip of my middle finger on my right hand (actually this happened right after I took that photo of me handling him).. When I saw it happened I winched and I'm thinkin', "Here we go.."
Thanks to all of you who posted and left me some awesome comments, I really appreciate it! I took a ton of new photos tonight of all of them so look forward to seeing those on Saturday along with my other new inverts!:)

Very cool T's. I actually got to hold one for the first time at a reptile show a few months ago.
I've always wanted to, but I understand you don't just go up to one and pick it up as if it were a puppy. This girl had one out, don't even remember what it was, but I asked her and she let it climb on me.
She did warn me that they freak people out, so I gripped my wrist with the other hand to make sure I didn't freak and flinch. It was hands down the coolest thing I've ever done, it felt like q-tips touching me!
I got to let it walk from hand to hand a few times, then I gave it back. I've often thought about owning one, but since I am highly allergic to bee stings, I'm very much afraid I'd have a bad reaction to a T bite.

Sounds like you had an awesome experience:)!!
Yeah it might best be to wait on that, I'm not exactly sure how bad a reaction can get if you were bit by a New World T and were more allergic to the venom. NW T's venom is not very potent, symptoms normally involve swelling in the area, numbness, redness in the area, tingling feeling, and that's all the symptoms I know of as far as NW T's go.
Old World T's are definitely the ones you'd rather not get bit by because the symptoms are worse as the venom is much more potent. Though, there have never been any recorded deaths from tarantulas.

Though if you do decide to get anything, make sure to keep an epi pen handy. It's much better to be safe then sorry.

LOL thank you :D. I must admit, I even sometimes get a little freaked out when I handle them if they make a sudden move or something.
