Questions About Room Temps
I was curious to hear what most keepers have their rooms ambient temps set at. Currently I have a radiant oil heater in mine plugged to a Ranco T-stat set at 80 and the ceiling fan running 24/7 to circulate the air. Is this excessive or do most people run their rooms cooler?

I do not have my heater on a thermostat except the one in the wall. I use my baseboard incase of big temp drops but a small ceramic heater maintains the ambient temps pretty stable. I keep the room 79-81. I also have found a fan useful in keeping rock stable rack temps/humidity.

I keep my snakes in my bedroom because it already has an extra heater with a thermostat since its over the garage. I manage to keep my room between 78 and 82 at all times.

This is exactly why I posted this question . I was wondering if I was the only one who felt like I just entered the gates of satan when I go in my snake room.

Re: Questions About Room Temps
I don't worry about the room temp. As long as it's livable for me that's all that matters. (Why? No, I'm not a selfish/ignorant pet owner ... you'll see in the next paragraph*) That's why I keep room temps from the mid-60's to mid-70's all year-round depending on hot or cold I feel and how much I want to spend on heat or air conditioning ... and let me tell you, Chicago can get pretty hot and very cold and we often get big temp swings during the week or day.
I also don't "worry" about my bp's temps ... *why?* ... because I've got a proper-sized sterilite tub with good ventilation and proper humidity for shed or non-shed provided by separate humidity box within the enclosure, an accurate digital thermometer and humidity gauge ... and most importantly: 3 Helix thermostats connected to 3 UTH's: 1 under the cool hide set to 80F and one under the warm hide set to 90F, plus, one monitoring the UTH on the lid of the tub to maintain ambient air; with this set up the coolest the ambient air temp gets is 76F min and 82F max.
So there you have it ... a heavy investment in progressive thermostats pays off with a constant self-monitoring system to provide the proper heat gradient especially under each hide and maintain a comfortable ambient air temp without going below an unhealthy 75F.
I've read that bp's thermoregulate properly and get most of their heat through belly heat, and ambient air is not as important as long as it's in a normal range (and especially not below 75F).
Hope this helps ;)
Re: Questions About Room Temps
I keep my room at 80 in the winter time with an oiled fill heater and in the summer I don't use any supplemental heating because my room stays at 78. Yes, this is very warm and at times a little uncomfortable. I run the a/c in the summer in my living room so when I need to cool off I spend a lot of my time in my living room.
