Kinda looks like a carpet python to me.......but I'm not extremely familiar with carpet pythons so I'm not 100%. Definately not a ball python.

BAHAHAHA omg that's too funny. It's a jungle carpet python. lmao. Pet stores :rolleye2:
-
:O Yup, carpet python. That thing's gonna get a liiiittle bit bigger than a ball python!!
-
Re: Check out this bp!!
LMAO! Wow. Carpet python, a.k.a. het VPI Axanthic ball python  I love pet stores.

Re: Check out this bp!!
Yeah, definitely a jungle carpet. Really pretty little guy, but it kind of worries me that they're selling it as a bp. If they're really that misinformed, they shouldn't be taking care of it, let alone selling it, because they won't be able to accurately explain the care requirements to a new owner. I admit it is pretty funny, but did you say anything to any of the employees?
-
I mentioned, that it looks really thin and long for a Ball Python, asked him if he was sure.. I said I think its a corn snake cause of the belly. I've never seen a carpet python.
It was on for $130 bucks though, is that good for a carpet python?

For that, you can order a JCP from a breeder. Check with Reptilicus, and others. Keep in mind their care and behaviour is nothing like a balls. They are easy though.
FYI, Morelia Spilota Cheynei
-
Another thing, from that photo (nor in person) there's no way to tell with absolute certainty that is 100% JCP!
There are a lot of carpet crosses, and it's really hard to tell (if not impossible) just by looking at a neonate what exactly it's genetics are.
Also, to really know how yellow it will turn out, you will want to look at the sire and dam that produced the clutch, and the breeders lines.
If you want a JCP, want to know what you're getting, and want the best for your money, order from a breeder that you trust.

ignorance at its finest... the other day on FB, someone posted a picture with their ball python and one of their friends asked what kind of snake it was, and the owners response was.... A BOA PYTHON!!! WTF!
-
Re: Check out this bp!!
Haha that's ridiculous, that would be one anorexic bp. On a similar note I had someone ask me what kind of snake Britney spears wore in her music video and this other guy was like, duh a ball python! So I just laughed at the idiot.

Hahaha wow. Sometimes I just don't understand people. At my work someone came in and asked if we sold frozen feeder rabbits. Me, immediately thinking they had a retic or Burma, asked them what kind of snake and how old it was. They told me this: "4 month old central American reticulated boa". Not only does that make no sense, but I have no idea how they thought a four month old anything would be able to down a rabbit. :S

Yes, because everyone who doesn't know one snake species from another is an idiot. Har har.
True idiots are those that laugh and make fun of other people. Just because you have made it a priority in life to make yourself knowledgeable on snakes doesn't mean everyone else has. Yuck yuck.
Ignorance at it's finest indeed. Tee hee.

Except for the petstore, who should know better, I would have to agree.

If the OP is telling the truth, and it's assuming it's a dedicated reptile store, I would agree - they should definitely know better.
-
Maybe they just sold the BP and didn't change the label yet? If they're savvy enough to sell a het VPI Axanthic BP, they probably know what a carpet python is... Worked at a reptile shop for a long time... it happens.
-
Perhaps,
I just thought it was weird. The guy who we asked to let us handle it was positive it was a ball python.
I know they only have one good snake guy there. The other guys wouldnt even let me buy my pinstripe without him.

I disagree with you here, it is ignorance because if you don't know something, why answer. For example, I recently got hired at a retail store and when customers coming in asking a million questions about a product, I don't pretend to know everything they are asking (even though I easily could just to make the sale), instead I call for assistance from someone who does. Why? So not only do I learn but the customer gets exactly what they want.
I live by this quote "it is better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you're stupid, than to open it and eliminate all doubt". So as "mean" as it may be, I do find it hilarious when people speak about something they know nothing of. Not knowing doesn't make you stupid, speaking when not knowing does.
And you know what the worst of this all... Some ignorant person will probably walk in there and buy that JCP as a ball python and not care for it properly.
