    ****Final Update on Nico****
Great news, my precious teenage python Nico has cleared all of the critical hurdles and is on the road to a strong recovery. One of the things that I did about 3 weeks ago was insisted that I switch Nico’s care over to Muffin’s DVM. I just could not ‘connect’ with Nico’s primary care vet. So, when I took her in yesterday, the vet says she looks fantastic, and that the treatments are working as planned. I still feel I received excellent care, but I am much more comfortable with both of my pythons receiving care from Muffin’s doc.

Last week Nico took a small mouse, and I knew this was also a great sign that she was feeling better. She got a full exam yesterday and all of her organs are functioning properly, blood pressure is good and no repertory issues. The vet was surprised to see how old Nico was, and said she was one of the oldest specimens he’d seen. It was really fun to talk to him and ask him about all the things I hear or have been told about snakes. He’s been a vet for 20 + years and owns snakes too, so that makes it really nice.

I am so grateful to have you folks to talk to and get advice from. I don’t know how I would have dealt with this whole situation without the knowledgeable and compassionate support from my friends on BP.net…you folks are priceless, thank you.

Nice! What vet do you take them to? I haven't needed one but would like to find a good one if I do.

Good to hear the snakes is going to be fine. I'm happy for you. For those of those who missed it, what was the problem with your slithering friend?

    Regards,

    B

My big girl came down with what was initially dx'd as a 'scutes' infection. Later it was determined to be a thermal burn with a secondary infection. The treatment for both is the same fortunately. Interestingly enough, my new vet told me that if any of her scute lesions return, she may have 'SCUD.' A Subcutaneous blood infection...I'm hoping that she does not develop any more problems. She's a really big girl who was in great health prior, so it really helped in her ability to recover...poor little pumpkin.
