How can I identify if its a real Lemon Pastel or just a normal Pastel? Any indications that anyone can point out?

Re: Lemon Pastel
Lemon pastels are a certain line of bright pastels from NERD. It doesn't matter how eye wateringly lemony the pastel is, if you can't prove that it's from lemon parents, it's not a lemon.

Well i know the one parent is a lemon pastel and the other is a regular pastel. I was just curious if you could tell the difference visibly. I dont have any pictures to post.

there is no difference, its the exact same gene, lemon = came from NERD thats all.
if you had to call it something I guess its 50% lemon. but the lemon part means nothing, all pastels are just pastels.

The ONLY way to prove you have a true Lemon Pastel is to buy from NERD. They are the ones who imported the line, bred it out and named it.
Anyone can call a pastel a lemon, but if you want the acknowledged real deal, get it from NERD.

Anyone can call there pastel a lemon pastel but only if you KNOW the parents are BOTH from NERD or you bought dirrectly from NERD then you don't have a lemon.. you have a pastel...
And since that pairing was a Lemon pastel and a normal pastel all the babies can realy only be named pastel and not NERD since you can't garentie that that it is a NERD line Lemon pastel anymore...

Sometimes the physical look of the snake is more important than the names, the real lemon pastels from NERD tend to be real yellow and don't brown out as much when they grow up.

How do you "know".
Did they purchase it from nerd?
Here's an interesting point Subdriven brings up...

Why do both parents need to be from NERD?
Wouldn't a normal X NERD Lemon pastel make more lemon pastels since that gene comes from the pastel and not the normal?

Pastels are the most dilute single morph strain you can work with!
So many small breeders start out with pastels, breeding whatever they can to develop their lines, or just to have something to breed!
I have several pastels from Nerd/Grazi/Davis/Love/Ian G lines that I interbreed to develop the best color and pattern in my somewhat less than humble opinion ;).
So.....
Stop being so concerned with the label and work with the animal for it's potential.
Kevin didn't build his name on line alone!
He bred for a specific look in his pastels.

Anyone ever heard of good business? Attaching the "lemon" to their pastel line has made NERD some good money. They took mine. Here's my 2000g '04 female lemon pastel from NERD. More than just a name, selectively breed pastels make the best pastels IMO. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...ch/1174531.jpg

Re: Lemon Pastel
Look on youtube for N.E.R.D interviews with Kevin. There is a video on there that explains exactly what a lemon pastel is. And to the op above you dont need both parents to make a lemon. Its a co dom gene isnt it, so only one parent would have to be a lemon pastel or a pastel whatever you feel like calling it in order to make more lemons.

Even NERD hasn't been picking out lemons from lemonXnon-lemon breedings. He/they have been calling them "mixed pastels." -that's what I would call them.

Per Kevin. Lemon's have very little blushing and long broken neck stripes coupled with nice intense color into adult hood.
