Re: Hybrids?
This is a very touchy subject to many. Is there a market? I think there is, but it is not something that I would be interested in. Best of luck...

Ok Fox was the wrong choice. But all breeds today come from a small group of wild dogs in the past that at one point where not the same. There was no Great pack of chauhuahuas roming the plains

If I recall correctly that clutch of burmballs was an "accident". I'm not certain how I feel about these crosses, but I've read some strong words against it by some breeders. I think we're all ready playing god a bit with some of these designer morphs, and like stated already K9 breeding. It kinds appears to me almost being like "drinking wine is okay, but drinking booze is wrong." Its still alcohol just taken to the next level. I don't know, hope that makes sense..

Domestic dog breeds are the result of line breeding grey wolves, which are the same species as the domesticated dog. Domesticated dogs are not the result of hybridization.
On the subject of hybrids and reptiles.. Hybrids are awesome projects, however my favorite are the "distant" crosses. Ball x woma, ball x burm, carpet x woma all produce offspring that aren't mistakable for either parent species. I don't like "close" crosses, such as the angry ball (ball x angolan python), because the end result doesn't look drastically different from either parent, and COULD be mistaken or passed off as a pure variant of each species.
Before undertaking a hybrid project, you really need to have great understanding and experience breeding each of the parent species on their own. Most attempts at hybridization prove unsuccessful. Season after season, strikeout after strikeout, slug clutch after slug cluth is what you can expect before having a handful of fertilized eggs that go full term.

I admit, a lot of them are stinking gorgeous  but there is always the whole moral implications of what you are really doing for the species, considering most hybrids result in a lot of deaths and bad eggs! So it can be frustrating as well as heart breaking.
The dog thing is a little off(although some recent studies suggest a few jackals and coyotes contributed to the blood lines slightly depending on the area of the world--sort of accidental breeding and mixing as other wild dogs/wolves were also 'domesticated' at the time), but actually Betta fish come from hybridizations of separate species :) Betta Splendens never existed in the wild, they were created by man mixing several wild species of betta. Many color morphs are actually created mixing splendens to other wild type species! The difference is many of them seem closer related, and though they are different species, they tend to all breed pretty easily, other than two things-- the fact that they are different sizes and often have trouble 'wrapping' the female(though eggs almost always are just fine), and the fact that some breeders try too hard to keep a strong line and overbreed things like thick scales into an animal that isn't meant for such thick scales, causing scales to form over the eye, blinding the animal. But that is more about bad breeders than the hybrids.
But it's a very touchy subject. I know I myself would not go into breeding them! I know a lot of people worry about the blood line of snakes being muddied, but people sell hybrids for so dang much, I really doubt many people could get a hold of one without knowing it was a hybrid! If they got popular and less expensive I can see that being a problem, though.

Re: Hybrids?
I actually plan on doing some hybrid breeding in a few years. I will be microchipping any offspring through.
I like hybrids, I don't see a problem with them as long as they are accurately represented. There are a lot of people that don't like them though. Since they are so uncommon there is a market for them, but the price points are usually very high. I suppose the reason is that they are hard to create, and the breeders want people who REALLY want the animal to purchase it. You don't buy hybrid reptiles as an impulse purchase.

Anyone know how big that burm ball is now? I love the colouring, I just wonder if they get as big as a burm, or stay a bit smaller?
I don't mind hybrids as long as they are very visually different from either parent, avoids someone mistaking a hybrid for a pure animal.
