worst belly rot... what do i do?
My ball python has the worst case of belly rot i have ever seen, and i have even looked at some pictures on this site of bad cases and his is 100 times worse. he has large scabs going all the way down to his tail from about the middle of his body. i have been cleaning him and his cage and checkin him regularily but i just checked him now and it is so severe now i dont know what to do. i feel awful and im not sure even with antibiotics that he is gunna be able to recover. what should i do?
Re: worst belly rot... what do i do?

Number 1 thing, if you can afford it and if one is in your area (some areas have no herp vets), is call and make an appointment with a herp vet.
Secondly, buy some Betadine from walmart and mix it with a tub of water until it turns a light tea color. Then soak her for 10-15 minutes. (Btw before you add betadine, put the snake in the plain water because they like to take a drink when they're first introduced. After a few minutes, add the Betadine) After the soak, put some Neosporin (with no painkiller) along the entire length of scale rot. Repeat until you see the vet.
If you cannot afford a vet or one is not in your area, follow these steps listed above. If it keeps getting worse...
Good Luck!

The snake was your responsibility and they don't develop horrible scale rot overnight. So the fact is you let the snake get this way, now take some responsibility and take it to a vet. No quick fix. And if you can't afford a vet then surrender it to a rescue. I'm sorry if I sound mean. But it is tough love. I've heard way too many cases of this, been involved in one case personally and My Gosh my parents can take care of my snake husbandry wise while I am away at college and they know squat about snakes. So C'mon people! Very disappointing... and unacceptable.
GL with your snake.
What right do you have to attack this person like this? You don't know his/her circumstances, whether he thought he/she could try to fix it himself, money situation, nada. He/she obviously has been attempting to help the snake and from what he/she has said, will do what it takes to make it better (an assumption on my part)
I can empathize with the frustration and anger you feel but whats done is done. He/she doesn't need a lecture from any of us about how he needs to give up his snake, etc etc. We all make mistakes and some have huge consequences. Hopefully, this mistake will turn out for the best but either way, I doubt that he/she will make it again.

He/she realized that they have an issue, they feel bad and they came here for help. So that's what we should do and what the majority of people have been doing.
Any updates?

Re: worst belly rot... what do i do?
I did not attack them. Plus what sympathy do we owe to people who neglect their pets? There is no excuse to let a snake get scale rot the extent they described. Obviously husbandry was mediocre. This is the truth. And I'm sure Some would agree. Say as you wish But I offered advice. I saw a snake die because the people wouldn't give it up after leaving it in its tank for 2 months. They wouldn't surrender it or bring it to a vet. And animal control did squat. Why is it when a pet gets sick then we feel obligated to do something? Why not take responsibility and prevent the whole mess to begin with. I'm upset that so many people sit around and don't take care of their pets and then are surprised when it gets sick. What did they expect? That is the truth. Don't have a pet if you can't take care of it. I have a right to my opinion as do others. Whether I am right or wrong I can voice my opinion. No more arguing.
Despite what some think I do genuinely care about the snake in this situation.

I never said you don't care. If you didn't care you wouldn't care if the snake lives or dies but based on your angry reaction, you obviously care.
Part of the problem with the internet is that people lose their sense of manners. Would you say what you said to that person's face? If the the answer is no (which I suspect it is) then you shouldn't say it on a forum either.
What you said in the previous post was attacking the other person. You even went so far as to say give the snake to a rescue! You have absolutely no right to say/demand that from anyone especially since you do not know this person personally. How do you know what their situation is? This person could be an 11-year old kid who is scared out of his mind that hes going to lose his snake! You don't know! I understand that you have seen a snake die from this before, but instead of using that experience to justify your attacking statements, why not try putting things in a more positive and polite light?
Finally, please keep voicing your opinion! It is your right but may I suggest a more polite tone? No one enjoys being attacked when they realize that they made a mistake and want/need help. The criticism can come after we get this problem solved!
Now, back on track:
