Re: Ovulation thread
Hello!
I am in my first BP breeding season (so excited!). I have seen my male lock with both females a few times since December. I understand that I should have my incubator running and equilibrated (?) a couple of weeks before I have eggs, but how do I know when to start it if I miss seeing ovulation? What other signs and timelines should I watch for?
Thank you!

If you miss an ovulation look for female going into shed. When you see the shed cycle approach, get the incubator up and running and tweaked.

First one I have caught this year. It's going to be a who's you daddy clutch. She was bred by a pastel and a pinstripe.

Thank you! Both of my girls shed in the last ten days, I just wasn't sure whether I should consider them pre-ovy or pre-lay sheds?

Next girl to join the Ovy Club. She laid 5 last season and was a hold back that completed the cycle.

I am not into breeding so i never really read anything on it,but i have a question, when the females ovulate does that mean they are ready to breed and next pair up they will become gravid or does it mean they are gravid? Also how are they able to become so big when ovulating,
i am not thread jacking as this question is mostly towards Rich, but others may answer.

Once they ovulate their gravid and breeding with them is over. In about 2 weeks they shed and after they shed about 30 days eggs are laid.
they get large like that due to the impregnation process inside. I cant really go into details as its never been documented on whole process inside on why they massively swell.

Thanks for the explanation, you guys on here make Bp breeding look so easy when i know really it's not, i just read a bit about it and it's work man. Good luck.

Snapped this pic this morning. Not my biggest girl but she is 4 years old and over 1300 grams so I thought I'd give her a shot. She is a possible het snow bred by my double het for snow. Probably going to be a small clutch but one can hope right.

Re: Ovulation thread
So I posted this question in another thread but I assume this one is more appropriate. Some of you talk about "seeing the ovulation" or "missing the ovulation". My question is, after they ovulate, does the swelling go down fairly quickly? Seems that with the eggs being there, the ovy would remain visual until the eggs pop out, but am I wrong? How soon after the female ovulates do you have to be looking to "catch" it!
-
Yes the swell stays but wont be as massive. Day by day the eggs are developing and getting bigger. So they will not go back to normal size till have laying the eggs

Another to ovulate. Palpated 8 or 9 month ago.
Just locked the bee 3 days ago and so i think he sealed the deal as she looks like this now.
This girl is 2800g before going off feed month ago
