    Just your everyday, average morph...?
I was cleaning cages today, and was thinking about how I used to think the Spider morph and the Pinstripe morph were, well, boring. There didn't seem to be much to them... a little bit of a different pattern, maybe some lighter or darker shades of brown here and there, but nothing noteworthy or eye-catching.

After purchasing my spider and my pinstripe, however---and only because I had plans to use them to create other morphs---these two base morphs have quickly become a couple of my faves. I simply cannot get over the golden color of my spider girl, nor the deep, rich chocolately carmel colors of the pinstripe.

It's just funny how opinions can change, I guess, when you see something for yourself instead of just in pictures. Made me realize that no morph is everyday, nor average! :gj:

I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them? Have you ever purchased a morph thinking, "Eh, it's all right, I can use it to make something better." And then found that the base morph was excellent all on it's own? If so, which morph?

Yes, actually my first pair that I purchased, a pastel and spider pair, I was dead set on making a Bumblebee, and selling the pair, since they were just "basics".
But now I really appreciate their coloration, and they are really beautiful animals, I don't think I'll ever be able to sell them.

Something about the spider. I don't know what it is but I had to have one. Picked up a baby today. I'm so excited.

I was the same with pinstripes! I really didn't care too much for them or their combos just based on pictures I had seen at the time. As far as I was concerned they were basically a spider with less bang to it. I'd still probably pick spiders over pinstripes if I could only work with one of them, but I've really come to appreciate the subtleties that pins have.

A nice bright gold spider will always hold a soft spot in my heart. When I have non snake people come over it's always the spider and the pin they like the most. Granted my collection is that big yet, but I still love that non snake people pick out the bp world's 'boring' morphs. I love my pin and spider, they are my favs.

honestly I never thought much of lessers, I just wanted to make BEL's. but after watching my boy grow up and getting my girl, I think they are one of the top base morphs. the rich color, way the sides fade out, blushing is way crazier on some of then then I ever thought. I love the morph now.

I used to view mojaves as just a means to an end (that elusive white snake!); even after I got my first mojave girl, chosen specifically for her black-back pattern, I liked her but still wasn't hugely fond of mojaves in general ... They've gradually grown on me, though, and have started to become one of my favorite base morphs.

I think maybe the reason for that gradual appreciation is that their pattern isn't so extreme as to stand out amidst some of the crazier stuff (bumblebees, lucies, etc.), but when viewed in its own light, it's simply gorgeous :)

So I don't own a pinstripe? But every time I see one in person I'm blown away. I love the olive color, and the pattern is just so insanely different from a normal.

Chris, that pinner you sold me is just beautiful. He's such a rich color of brown, it's amazing. I liked him when I first saw his hatchling picture, but, in person, he grows on me every single time I open his tub. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to give him a home! :D

It probably doesn't hurt that both he and my spider girl have awesome attitudes. My spider girl is very curious, always coming right up out of the tub first thing I open it, and the pinner is much the same. I have others that do the same (my HRA is always wanting to check everything out)... I guess these two just hold a special place in my heart.

If I had the room, I would purchase more spiders and pinners! lol

This is a bigger deal than I ever used to give it credit for (especially when I worked exclusively with bloods who wanted to eat my face on a routine basis ), but I've come to really highly appreciate the value of a snake with a good personality. My biggest female mojave, Dutchess, is probably my favorite of my BPs, and it isn't because she is the craziest/most expensive morph or even the greatest example of her morph (though she is quite lovely, she isn't all that reduced-pattern, which is what I go for in my morphs). It's because she has an excellent personality -- very alert and curious, as you describe your guys, but tame enough that I've used her for education quite a few times. (She also loves to eat, too :D )

XD I used to think Pastels were so disappointing because they "always" turned brown! But my sweet female pastel, is getting browner as she ages and I'm actually enjoying watching the color changes. She's keeping a pretty good color and has those cute little lemon 'seeds' on her side with black and brown. She's a big sweetie and eats more reliably than my garbage disposal. When the weather is brighter I'll have to take some updated pictures of her. She just ate three mice for me last night and I looked in this morning and she's in shed! :D Once again, such a great eater...

I also was afraid of spiders because of the wobbles, but now that I've had snakes for several years I've noticed that all my snakes get a little spazzy and jittery when they are hungry/hunting or stressed. So while it's still a spider issue, it's less scary to me and I'm buying a very nice looking male! I ALWAYS loved the pattern, just wasn't sure how I felt about wobbling.

Me too, one of my first morphs and one that I've come to like as much as any other single co-dom.

I LOVE mojaves, so when I got my mojo boy I decided to get a pastel girl with him to eventually get some super pastel mojaves after a few seasons. Started out as a means to an end, but Ember has been growing on me as she ages. Paid a little extra $$$ on her because the difference in a quality pastels was obvious in pictures, and her crazy blushing has just been getting brighter! She's definitely more nervous than my mojo boy, but she's a nice snake to have around my shoulders while I'm reading or studying :D
