    ZooMed UTH on tubs
So I just got a Zoo Med UTH and I'm wondering what I should put in between it and the tub?. I hear it doesn't stick well plus I don't want to melt the tub....
    Any ideas?

I first tried to simply tape the heat mat to the tub but it wouldn't hold tight enough against the tub to allow for proper heat penetration so I peeled back the sticky paper stuff and stuck it directly to the tub and then taped the edges down with aluminum tape - it worked fine then.

No, it wont melt the tub just as long as you have it regulated by a thermostat.

it won't melt the tub unregulated, but unregulated will harm your animal.

I take the paper off, then stick aluminum tape to them so I can move them around if needed;)

why do people always ask if it will melt the tub?? its pretty obvious that it will take some pretty extreme heat to melt a tub, and that kind of heat is too high to obviously expose your animal too.

because lightbulbs melt plastic and people just associate reptile heating with melting plastic. lightbulbs can get 400+ degrees while heat tape only gets about 140-150 unregulated.

Zoomed will fall off of plastic tubs in a relatively short period of time. You need to use thermal tape (its silver/aluminum and comes in a roll like duct tape), and it will stay attached. The middle will usually unadhere, but you can tape the edges.

I will have to apologize for our counterpart, some people are just tired of seeing the same questions over and over.

Most everything has been answered for you. As long as you are using some type of regulation on your heat mat, the only problem you are going to have is making it stick. The aluminum ducting tape works wonders on almost everything.
