wow! already have responses!! Thanks guys!! ya I am really impressed with the male's coloring he has some blushing and a very reduced pattern which I love... he is such a trooper I rescued him from people who were going to just let him go outside here in Los Angeles if I didn't take him, and the tank they had him in had NO hide, shavings that hadn't been cleaned in what looked like years (urates and poop was gone but the shavings were basically dust due to all the liquid pee) NO heat pad, NO heat lamp... so I just went and bought all that for him yesterday and he's been loving life... He had been fed like 3 mice a week so at least he was being fed, although I will start feeding him large rats along with my other girl :) His coat is sort of dull though.... he looks like he's been through a lot poor guy!

Maybe the experts here can help. I'm just new to the hobby. Post some pics of the scales for them to analize. I hope you quarantined the new snake in a different room away from your pastel just to be sure.

heres pix - they arent scales that haven't been shed I don't think because when that happens on my pastel they usually come off easily when I pet her... but these are like really really dry and sort of shriveled

ok CORRECTION.... I just popped my pastel and it is a MALE and I popped the regular and it is a FEMALE .... no wonder shes so big! exciting... I'm glad because she is so much easier to handle than the pastel...!!! To you experienced breeders, do you think having a normal female (who has low pigmentation) is a good one to breed to? Any suggestions on what to breed her to?

    Welcome!

I really like the reduced pattern normals! Great job on rescuing him/her.

Those don't really look like anything to worry about. Flaky shed pieces left over after a shed will come off on the next shed. Just make sure it's humid enough for the next shed.

If you have a pastel male and normal female, it would be a great place to start breeding. I'm just in my first season of breeding and I'm learning a lot.

Best thing to do is read, research, read, and research on the proper setups and care of BPs. Make sure you can take care of them well. Then move on to worrying about breeding and taking care of babies. Though I think I'm ready, I'm still nervous...we'll see how it goes.

For reduced pattern, for my preference, I'd look at putting spider or mojave with it...but I'm just a lowly newbie, too.

Newbie!!- My BPs ... questions and prospects!
for sure, yeah I'm 100% sure my pastel is a male ... 2 hemipenes definitely came out and the regular... I could barely get ANYTHING to come out so I'm guessing its a female... I'm looking to get a spider off CL .... here are some pictures of her:

What are your guys' experiences/suggestions on spiders with a wobble... he said she has a slight wobble...which I know is really common in spiders but is this something that I should worry about in terms of breeding/genes or having a snake with a wobble in general?

Also... can someone please explain the whole 1.0, 1.1, .1 thing to me...?? I asked the guy if he had any more snakes besides the spider and he said yes " 1.1 spiders 1.1 mojaves 1.0 super pastel .2 het albinos" .... please explain what this means!!!

    Thanks :) :)

Very nice pastel. I like the blushing and I love the reduced pattern female normal. As far as the spider, I have a male and I love him. His wobble is more of a weird corkscrew. It's like he's the exorcist snake. He can twist around and be moving fine right side up or upside down. It's so unique and odd.
Anyway, the spider you showed pics of looked nice. Welcome to the site and let us know how things go!

I definitely added a reduced pattern normal female to my collection. I feel like she is going to be a good pattern cleaner for some of the morphs I am trying to make. Both your animals as well as that spider look pretty nice! Congrats and welcome to the site!
