Lost my first female birthing tonight...
I guess it had to happen sometime. Russian blue het dumbo full of Russian blue dumbos and dumbo het babies. It couldn't have been one of my feeders LOL. Of course not, that would have been too easy.

Aw, i'm really sorry that you lost one of your girl. :( At least you have her babies to look forward too. I know it won't bring her back but you'll have a peice of her in every one of her babies.

Sorry to hear that. Glad to hear the babies are alright. Good luck with them.

Umm...she never got the first baby out. They all died inside her. Don't ask how I know what she was full of LOL. I tried an experimental c-section LOL.

I have a lot more just like her and plenty of russian blue dumbos that will be taking her place. So, it doesn't really pain me that much. It was more of a shock than anything.

Wow, I don't know how you can just let it roll off of your shoulders like that EVEN if you do have "others" like her. Poor girl... I'd be SO heart broken if ANY of my snakes died. :(

At the end of the day they're still just meat in a fur coat. I have some favorites that I will be sad when they go, but this wasn't the case here LOL.

If you get sad when they die how do you feed your snakes? lol.

Oh my GOD! Hahah! So sorry, I TOTALLY missed the part about it being a RAT. I guess my eyes just wandered to the good stuff. Lol! I thought you had lost a snake... I guess I just thought you went in trying to rescue her eggs. In the Chameleon world, when a gravid female with viable eggs becomes egg bound and dies, the eggs are removed and incubated. SO, ooops. Lol! "My bad". Even then, i'd still be sad to lose a rat which is why I feed frozen/thawed, lol!

I knew that was the case before I even read the thread. And once I saw that you knew what the babies were, I guessed on the reason why :P A friend of mine was having issues with his girls dying from a breached baby. I don't know why it was happening but I know there were several that happened to in a relatively short time, I think they were all from the same place and same age though. :( Luckily I haven't had that happy yet, that really sucks about the babies!

I thought that there might have been a possibility that the babies were still alive. She was 99.999% dead and I gave her a quick brain shot. Flipped her over, clipped the skin on the abdomen, clipped the abdominal wall, pulled out both horns, clipped them open carefully and pulled the pinks out. They were fully formed but all were already stone dead.

The possibility exists that I f'd her up. I cleaned that rack when she had just started birthing. I pulled her out and noticed a little blood on the back end of her. She was HUGE pregnant so I just cleaned the tub as fast as possible and put her back in. So maybe I killed her. I don't know. It was just shocking to me.

She was out of my stock so there aren't any birthing issues known in my lines. This was the very first one out of thousands.
