Omg I just got my first baby bp
She is a 2010 albino and omg she is sooooo small. She weighs 125 grams and is about 15" long. I am a nervous wreck - never had one this small to care for.
Is there any special instructions for one this small. She is due to eat tomorrow but since I just got here I thought I would wait until at least Saturday before I offer - does that sound like good plan.
All help is appreciated
Thanks

First of all, congratulations :)
She may look small to you, but this is a nice weight already for a hatchling. I would definitely give her a few more days to settle in and feel comfortable, before attempting to feed !
Its not that much longer, so she will not have to wait long.
The only things about them when they are so small, make sure the enclosure isn't to big and overwhelming, make sure you have minimum of 2 hides that are small enough to make her feel safe, and go slow with introducing handling, until she is comfortable with it.
Again, congrats on the new addition :)

Re: Omg I just got my first baby bp
Fist off, Congrats. on your new addition! Now as hard as it is, you should leave her alone for a good week. You can offer her food and she if she eats it, great. Or offer her it in a week. Just let her settle in to her new environment. Just make sure she has fresh water and she has a couple of hides, one at the hot side (90-93) and one on the cool side (78-82) with around 50-60% humidity.
After she has settled in, post some picts. of her, would love to see them.
Hope this helps,
Dave

Re: Omg I just got my first baby bp
You should be fine waiting to feed. As was already mentioned give her two hides and plenty of security, give her about a week with no handling to settle in as well. Congrats!

Re: Omg I just got my first baby bp
Maybe I was wrong to call her a hatchling - she was born in sept of 2010 and is like 5 months old.
I plan to give her time to settle in. She is sooo cute. This is my first baby - all my others were a year old when I got them. I am just amazed at how tiny she is.
I got her from Brian with bhb reptiles.

Re: Omg I just got my first baby bp
I just bought an albino from Brian about a month ago. He had a couple beautiful ones left. Please post a pic I would love to see how she is looking, and if I am still happy with the one that I chose. lol

She is doing great. She is eating awesome, every 5 days, and growing very well. When I picked her up she was about the size of yours. Now in the 6 weeks she has put on around 60 grams. My avatar pic is actually of her. I wish I could take better pictures.

Is yours eating live - if so how do you do it.

Re: Omg I just got my first baby bp
When I purchased it I fed it live mainly because that is what Brian feeds, but the last two feeding she has eaten f/t for me. I have been feeding her every 5 days, and she is eating like a champ. It is just easier for me to feed f/t. So if I can get them to switch over from live I do. So far I only have one that I can not get switched over, and with her I think it is more because she is a very shy eater than that she has a problem with f/t. BTW I have purchased all of my bp's from BHB. I think that I am going to have to go see them pretty soon..

Re: Omg I just got my first baby bp
To Dragonboy, when you fed the new baby live - did you just drop it in the tub or dangle it on tongs??
If you do just drop it in the tub - do you remove the hides??
Thanks for the help.

Re: Omg I just got my first baby bp
When I fed live I just dropped it in. I did not remove the hides. I have her in a 15 qt. tub, and she has not had a single problem...:gj:

Re: Omg I just got my first baby bp
Ok, thanks. I plan to attempt her first feeding possibly this sunday. That will give her a few days to get settled. If she doesn't eat - I will then wait a full week. I just wasnt sure how to offer the rat.
Thanks for your help.
Hopefully I will have pictures to post next week of this new baby and my other snakes - just need to upload them.

Re: Omg I just got my first baby bp
Good luck with the feeding. I have never had a problem with any of the snakes that I have bought from Brian. I just leave them alone as much as possible until they eat a few times for me..:gj:

Re: Omg I just got my first baby bp
Yah, let her settle in before feeding. My albino girl is a pretty shy eater. She didn't eat the first week I had her, but shes doing good on live now. Hopefully, I can get her on f/t soon. She just hit 8 months yesterday and is 225-250g depending on how full she is.

Send her too me and I'll send you great pictures of her. Seriously, congrats on the new addition and good luck. Would like to see some pics when you can.

Re: Omg I just got my first baby bp
So you guys think I should wait at least a week before offering food?? She is just sooo tiny I worried that she would get too thin missing a meal. She was due to eat today but since I just got her yesterday I knew that was out of the question but I thought maybe offering sunday - what do you guys think would be best.
Thx

Re: Omg I just got my first baby bp
I always try to wait at least 5 days just to let them settle in, but it is your choice. If she looks well settled in then you could give it a try, I just wouldn't hold my breath on her eating. I also worry about putting additional stress on the new BP.

Re: Omg I just got my first baby bp
then I am going to wait it out - I don't want to jinx anything. I will wait until next Thursday and offer then. I sure hope the poor girl isn't starving. She settled into her hides within the first 20 minutes and she's only been out of them late at night I caught her snooping around but then she ended up back in her hide. She is sooooo cute. I really am anxious to be able to hold her but I totally understand the rules about letting them settle in so I will resist the urge - lol

Re: Omg I just got my first baby bp
Trust me I know how hard this can be... It is all I can do not to handle them every day.

Re: Omg I just got my first baby bp
Its hard to resist! I wanna hold my new pickup so bad. She's just so cuddly and BIG! Oh well, hopefully adults acclimate faster than babies! :)

Re: Omg I just got my first baby bp
When I picked up my new Albino baby from the breeder I did notice that her skin was a little wrinkly and her eyes were pink instead of red. Since I have never had an Albino I wasn't sure what to look for in regards to an impending shed. Well, it turns out that she was going into a shed when I got her last Thursday and this morning I found pieces of shed in her tub. I felt sooo bad because I didn't know she was going into shed and didn't increase her humidity.
She managed to get her face, neck and eyecaps off and then I soaked her for a bit and let her crawl thru a washcloth which got the rest of the shed off. I pride myself on all of my babies having one piece sheds so I was devastated that this happened.
She seems to have such a wonderful temperment - she tolerated the soaking just fine. I think I was more upset about it than her - lol.
