Quick Pinstripe Question...

So it seems that whenever I see any pin combo, there is always a relatively clean dorsal stripe (jigsaw, cinpin, etc.), but in looking around for pins, it is pretty difficult to find a fully striped pinstripe. The question is: does the pinstripe gene, when combined with other genes, always produce a fairly clean dorsal stripe? Even if the pinstripe parent doesn't necessarily have a clean full stripe? Any input or opinions are welcomed! Thank you for your time in reading this post! -guy

yeah, same here. I have yet to actually purchase one, and I really like the way fully striped pins look anyway, but I'm really into pin combos, so that's why i ask.

Part of the pinstripe morph is the dorsal stripe-that's lighter colored, and the 'pinstripes' that run along both sides. Anything you breed the pin to *should* have the dorsal stripe, the pinstriping can be affected by whatever morph it was bred with, but depending on what it was bred with it should still be noticeable.

As for a perfect pinstripe, that will be harder to find. When I was looking for a pin I probably had a hundred to choose from at the Tinley show! It was easy to narrow down the selection because I wanted as close to perfect pinstripes as I could get, and a lighter pin. There were several pins at the show that had a perfect stripe, no lines crossing over the spine, no specs in the dorsal stripe, but they were dark pins. You also have to decide if your perfect pin is busy or reduced. For me, my main concern was the pinstriping and the color.

This is the girl I picked out. She has a few specs in her stripe, and one crossover, but her color is really nice. I got her to make jigsaws because I absolutely love them. I can't say if the jigsaw will have really nice pinstriping or not, but it will definitely have the dorsal stripe. I don't know for sure, but my best guess is that if you get a really nice pin you should get some nice pin combos, you might still get some eh ones, but a reduced patterned mate should help with that-selective breeding. I'm breeding her to my reduced mojo once she's big enough, so we'll see what happens!

She is a beauty! Yeah jigsaws are what I was after initially, cos I really love mojaves, but after I saw black pins and camos, I got really hooked on the potential with pinstripes! Thank you for your useful information, I definitely want a super busy side pattern when I get my lady! I can't wait for the next San Jose and Sacramento shows...long time off, but I still have some convincing to do to have more than my 2 right now haha Anyway, thank you and beautiful picture!

:rofl: Well at least you have plenty of time to talk whoever you need to talk into letting you get a third! Pinstripes do have some great combos! I haven't even thought about where I'm going after the jigsaw. I just love them! They are way underrated IMO.

That's a hot pin SlitherinSisters! I'm also planning on making jigsaws someday, but have a little different philosophy. I want as crazy a pattern as possible. while my pin isn't as busy as some others that I've seen, I'm pretty happy with her.

She is really nice! Her color and pattern! I was debating if I should get a really busy pattern, because busy jigsaws are awesome, or go for a reduced pin and see what happened with the jigsaw. I'd say my girl is somewhere in between.

Most pin combos have reduced pattern, eg. spinner, lemon blasts, and I assume that's because no other morphs have the kind of 'stripe's that pinstripes have. If you are looking for a pin combo with full dorsal stripe, how about a g stripe x pin? G Spin? :D

I don't know how common it is but all the pins I produced last season had 1-4 breaks in each stripe. The 2 I have left are the best looking ones. Even better than their father so I'm also wondering if that trait will just get better with future breedings or not.

If your really interested in the clean dorsal stripe I would recommend a Pinstripe Spotnose. I just picked one up and they are not all of that interesting. But... They do have a clean stripe like you are looking for and the price tag is not bad at all. Not to mention the double whammy power in clutches. I can point you in the right direction if your interested.

Ozzy's back is a little lighter in color, but no real stripe.

I'm 90% sure I want to get a fire pinstripe girl to go with my pewter. I haven't found any for sale though. I want a nice clean light one.
