I put the whole thing inside right? The i sit the base unit on the cool side and run the probe to the warm side right??? Or is it a different better way to do it,

    You got it right.

Unit on cool side, probe on warm side.

Or, theres a post that shows you how to mod it so that the inside temp and the humidity sensors are on wires too. So you can put one lead on the hot side and one on the cool side and hang the humidity one any where in there, and the thermometer can stay out of the tub/tank. I do that with mine and works great!

Yup, that's how I do it. Set the unit on the cool side and run the wire with the probe over to the warm side. Just make sure you put the probe all the way under the substrate right on top of the plastic/glass.

That mod's pretty cool saber2th, but I'd personally be a bit intimidated trying to do something like that (even though I'm sure it's not quite as hard as it looks) :P

Re: How to set up acu rite therm???
i actually use a temp gun to monitor temps so the probe & that attached cord really served no purpose for my set up and actually posed an entanglement risk so i snipped it off. mine gives me a pretty good humidity reading & displays the time.
i have my accu-rite unit mounted to the back glass in the middle of my terrarium using velcro.
wish i could post pics but my camera is currently M.I.A... :tears:

I velcro mine to the side as well. It keeps it from getting knocked over and damaged by feces/urine. For the excess probe wire, I used a fake rock water bowl flipped upside down to cover it, plus it provides something to rub on for sheds. If you are using a tub, you can just run the wire out the top, around, and back in on the warm side, and all of the excess wire is outside of the tub...

With tubs no need to have them inside. i only keep one per rack to monitor Flexwatt temps in accordance to the t-stat probe. Then device allows me to view room temps from different rack locations so i know where to position space heater.

I keep the device on the bottom shelves of each rack

But doesn't it have to be inside to read humidity??

Tub humidity is controlled by the number of holes you put in the side. Initially when you are making the holes, it is useful to put a hygrometer in to test how many holes you need. Once you have your humidity just right, it tends to stay there. Tubs hold humidity very well and rarely need any kind of adjustment.

You might need a little more then that. I have about 10 holes on each side of the tub, so 40 total. But it will be more or less depending on the normal humidity in your area. If you are in a dry climate=less holes, a humid climate=more holes

They are like quarter inch holes.

I put my accurite in the front corner of the tub and drill a hole to run the cord for the probe around the outside. I ziptie it to the tub and run the probe back in the back side over the heat source so there is only about 3in. of probe cord in the tub. I also hot glue the cord down in a spot or two. I like picking up the tub without having to worry about picking up the thermometer and i get the cool end temps. Here are a few pics. Hope this helps. I've added 6 accurites to my rack since the pics. I like it so far.
