    Who uses the 3" Flexwatt?
So my order came in yesterday for 30 Ft. of Flexwatt for my new rack I'm building. I didn't realize I guess how small it actually is. I guess what I'm asking is should I double it up to 6" across or is 3" enough to heat the hot side? To me it just looks like its not wide enough but maybe it will do the job just fine?

I have three inch flexwatt on my 32 quart cages from Reptile Basics, and they work fine. They are zigzagged across the back third of the tubs.

We use it on almost all of our racks. We have shoe box baby tubs on it up to 28q tubs on it with no prob.

I am building my rack using the 3" and I am installing a single strip for the 12q tubs and a double strip for the 28q tubs. 3" does not seem wide enough for a large snake to me either. Also, I got the 10w 3" instead of the 6w 3". It was the same price and I figured it would be able to heat more easily in colder weather.

I have 3 inch on my rack right now.
It works fine, but I have to set my Helix to 99 for the back side of the tub to be 90.
I think I'm going to use 4 inch on any new racks I get.

I just went with 11' for mine due to my rack has two feet in 6ftx4ft with 2ft deph. So I can pull the tubs forward if I would like. If heat is ever a problem I have already planned on just running a simple heat cable around the top of each rack to make sure the heat is where I want but I doubt I willl need to

I have 3 inch in my melamine rack under 28qt tubs and have to run it at 100 to keep 92 degree hot spots, It works, barely, lol

I use 3" but cover it with foil tape. This spreads the heat over a greater width, probably 4-5 inches. (Got the idea from someone on this forum a while back).

If you canvas the snake rack manufacturers, you'll find that most, if not all, use the 3 inch flexwatt tape. I set my thermostats 2 degrees hotter than I want my tubs.

    Good Luck!

I use it for my hatchling/juvenile rack. The big girls get 11 inch (their tubs are almost 3 feet long though).
