Can a BP catch a common cold?
    Hey BP.net!

Just wondering if a BP can catch a common cold. I have a cold at the moment and was wondering if I should refrain from handling him.

    Thanks,
    Fatal

No worries you can not pass a cold along to your snake.

Source? I figured as much... but couldn't find any resource to prove it.

Reptiles and mammals have completely different disease and they cannot pass between each other.

Yup, there's no way your bp can catch diseases from you.

What are your temperatures and humidity? It sounds to me like he's comning down with a respiratory infection. Do you see any mucous in the mouth or around the nostrils?

Yeah sneezing and wheezing is BADDDDDD!! That sounds like a RI for sure.

Yeah a reptile cannot catch a disease from a mammal, hence why it's ok to feed a sick rat to a snake, the protein is the same and they can't catch anything.

I don't have any sources except for the vets that i asked, they all confirmed.

Animal genetics and herptile biology is resource enough.
Asking can a BP catch a cold is like asking can can a human catch an RI

Though upper respiratory infections are found in both species, the bacteria or virus in a certain species can effect or infest another.
That is why you can care for you RI snake without getting sick but must move it away from other snakes.

Thanks for the responses guys :).

May have been a dumb question... but when I came down with Scarlet Fever about 2 years ago (yes, I had freaking scarlet fever, strep went untreated for too long, spread to my heart, liver, etc...), I passed the initial strep to my cat and she nearly died from it. I will never make that mistake again.

Thank God! I was afraid to handle my pweshious wittle babies as of now. (I have a cold straight outta the hockey stick factory)! Glad to know they can be around me, and visa-versa. :)
