What do you do?
While some of y'all on here are breeders, some have whole collections, and others just have 1 or 2 snakes, there's probably more to most of us than just BPs, beardies, iggys, ect.. What's your "9 to 5" so to speak?
Right now I'm a full-time student and I work part-time. I'm an Early Childhood Education major, and I'm set to graduate in December, if I don't lose my mind first! :rolleye2: I'm in one of the first groups to go through this program at my school, because we just became a state college from a community college, and NO ONE seems to know how to run the program, lol. Eventually I want to own and run my own child care center:D I work on the weekends at a clothing store, and I'm really, really starting to miss working with kids because this is the first time I've ever had a job outside of a daycare. But I intern in the fall, so I will back in the classroom before long!

Re: What do you do?
I'm a Loss Prevention officer at Kohl's ECommerce while finishing up my Bachelors degree in software engineering at University of Phoenix. I am a part-time boa and carpet python breeder. I have bred ball pythons in the past, but got out of them due to the fact that I was spending more time breeding rats than I was the balls, and most of my ball pythons were live eaters.

I was a mechanic for 11+ years, till the shop owner decided his money was worth more to him on things other than our payroll:O
I bounced around for almost 3 years trying to find a job I like.
I couldnt find and HONEST garage, in an area I wanted to work so I break in cars and houses now:cool: For the last 4 years I have worked for Pop-A-Lock of San Antonio, I love what I do but being an Assistant City Manager sucks. There is a lot that goes on people dont see and A LOT of poo I have to put up with.
In the future I am wanting my own business but we need to get out from under our credit card debt first. Would rather start out broke than in the red;)

In my past life I was an Account Executive.... I loved it, had so much fun doing it!! I got to work with top CEO's of fortune 500 and up companies. I did not think I would ever leave my career and I loved being a business woman. But now I am so blessed to have the ability to be a stay at home Mom! I am starting an official business....(name pending and soon you will know). It will be of course for breeding but also teaching kids about repsonsible pet ownership and reptiles in general!! I have already been doing several shows and have a large show schedule again for March!!! Nothing like turning children onto new things and seeing their eyes light up when see new things for the first time. Its sooo amazing!!

I love, love this, for probably obviosus reasons, lol. I've been meaning to ask you what you did with schools because I've heard you talk about shows with kids. Do schools just allow you to come in for this type of thing? Or is it something you do somewhere else?

Re: What do you do?
I have a BT in Wildlife Conservation, although I enjoy the education side of things a lot more. I've had a lot of odd jobs over the years: deli clerk, SPCA, Petsmart... but a couple summers ago I interned at the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center in NH, and then this past summer I worked at a local butterfly conservatory. I really love working there because they have tons of exotic birds, reptiles and amphibians too, but unfortunately it's only a seasonal position :( At the moment I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do with my life.
I'd love to do anything relating to animals, but more specifically I love educating others about the natural world (especially feared or misunderstood animals, like snakes). At some point I guess I'd like to have my own business, going around to schools, etc and teaching them about reptiles :)

Thanks for asking...its something I am pretty proud of!!!
It started with just planning on doing a small show last year at the school I worked at. It snowballed into a huge show...over 50 reptiles and 400 kids. We had newspaper coverage and it was really awesome. This one I did in the Gymn since there were so many students. Since then I have gotten calls to do more shows, but they are much smaller but I am actually getting paid to do them. Which is awesome! Not much but hey...it helps supplement feeding. Really I would do it for free anyways...lol. I have a show in March for about 100 kids and then another in April for about 65 kids. I was also approached by the town mgr. in regards to doing work with the summer camp kids. At this point as we are still trying to work out the details of the company so it is word of mouth. Usually the school will set up a classroom for me depending on the amount of kids. I like to have quite a bit of room so that I can walk down the isles of kids and let them interact with the reptiles. We also have a powerpoint presentation that we do w/ info and then the kids get a little booklet telling about each animal they interacted with and a little bit about them. I also go into the classroom a couple of days prior to the show to talk to the kids about some things they will see and how to act when the reptiles are around. We do the sign language for clapping etc. (so its not so scary for the reptiles) Its just really really rewarding and I love to talk about the reptiles and teach the kids!
Now I have been approached about parties and actually could make GREAT money doing that. But personally for me...its just too rowdy and not something I am comfortable exposing my reptiles to.

I love it! So, when I'm in my own classroom in a year, how much will I have to pay to fly you down here to do a presentation? :P
