    I met a goal of mine...woohooo!!!
So some of you may know that my 84 year old mother lives with us. (yes sometimes I need to drink heavily...lol) Anyways....she LOVES the lizards talks to them all the time, will hold them, refers to herself as grandma and has a genunie concern for them. In fact she is down right mean if someone is not acting accordingly around the lizards...

She does NOT like the snakes at all. She will stand outside the door of their room and look but no touch. Now keep in mind she is the one that started this whole BP thing by buying my son his first snake. Well today I had to clean out cages as they all just made a huge mess last night. So I got a big comfy chair and she walked by and I asked her to help. At first she was NO WAY!! I showed her the chair I got her and she finally gave in. She sat there for 20 minutes holding each snake while I cleaned and talked to them the whole time. The funniest part.... she was telling them...and I quote "now now stop moving around....hey...grandma said to stop moving so much, I think your going to eat me".

woohoooo....I think she finally likes them. She was telling them how pretty grandma thought they were and how soft grandma thought they were.

    ahhhhhh....ok...I feel accomplished!!

Nice I love these stories of people that are "Deathly Afraid" of snakes and with a little patients and education they come to see how great they are..

    GOLD STAR for you today

That's a good feeling isn't it? I've had that happen with a few friends who are deathly afraid. Once you get the snake in their hands for more than about a min, and the snakes don't go crazy, most people are pretty calm. Nice job!

Fantastic story about grandma. I can just see Freakies grandma of 86 years doing that. LOL but one thing; you might get better results if it's Grandma who does the heavy drinking...:rofl::rofl::rofl: Just kidding folks!!!:D

Great to hear! Congrats! I love hearing stories of people overcoming their phobias!

I've been working on getting my mom to hold a snake for a while now and she won't have it! I have gotten her in the snake room and gotten her to touch a BP, but she hasn't held one yet. I told my wife this is a big goal of mine. Either way she has made alot of progress by simply touching one. I'll get her eventually! My parents said they are coming out to visit in March...maybe she'll hold her first snake then?

    Oh , I love it :)

I got my entire family converted. While some are not comfortable holding a snake, they will ask about them and admire them.

My sister was on a cruise and she got to see Boas in the wild (central america) and she told everyone her sister has snakes, LOL. They told her all about the diff. snakes there and she couldn't wait to tell me what she learned and saw.

    Go grandma :)

I loooooooove it! It's my grandparents that are kinda holding me back from getting my BP, because neither of them want them in the house. Since I live at home, I have to respect that. But, I'm not giving up :D As much as it makes me sound spoiled, there have been very, very few times that Nannie and Papa have truly told me no about something, so I'm hoping they'll cave eventually, lol. Even if they don't, my other half will be moved down soon, and I'll just keep it at his house. That's my last resort, because I'd like it kept at home. Let's hope I can change their mind, too. We also never thought they would allow as many animals that are in the house in that there are now. We're up to 2 inside dogs, an inside cat, a bearded dragon, and 2 hermit crabs. Most of the animals they've allowed in have been dogs, and mostly ALL outside ones. We also had 8, yes 8!, hamsters at one point. Our 2 "girl" hamsters had babies.. :rolleye2: So I'm determined to get my 1 adorable snake, lol.

My mom's about the same age and she likes to look at the snakes when she's visiting my house. However, she won't hold them, nor will she get close to them. After having a few snakes out during the holiday season, I had put the snakes away and had them away for some time. I walked up to my mom and touched the back of her neck. She jumped and then exclaimed, you made me pee my pants. We all had a big laugh about it and she was cool with it.

So, congrats on getting mom involved with the snakes. That's no small accomplishment.

It is cool that your mom is coming around. My mother loves to handle my bp's. When she comes over I have to continually chase her out of my reptile room.

Congratulations on getting Gramma to hold the babies.

I can just see her telling them to hold still because she thinks they're going to eat her. :)

I'm still hoping to persuade my mom to at least let me bring one to see her when the weather gets warmer. Having grown up in the backcountry, she has an extreme phobia of snakes, and with good reason! She was horrified at the thought I was keeping them for pets??!!:O

I am hoping if I bring her one of the little bitty guys she'll see they aren't that bad.
