Eye issue

I noticed my BP has something going on with his left eye-I've seen it before, and after a shed, he was back to looking normal. This time he's shed twice and there has been no change. It doesn't look like an eye cap, as it is only the front and back edges of his eye that appear to be affected. Here is a pic (on FB, not sure if it will show?)

After your snake shed both of those times did you see the eye caps on the shedding?

I couldn't really think of anything else that it could be, it looks like an eye cap to me.

I wouldn't suggest trying to do anything at the moment until you get more responses.

it doesnt look like an eye cap to me but the membrane that the eye cap attaches to. As for what to do about it I would suggest not messing with it and taking him to a vet. I dont know if some one else with more experience will be able to offer you an at home fix but as it is I wouldnt mess with it without knowing exactly what I was doing. Good luck getting a resolution and keep us posted.

I suppose it could be partially retained but the majority of his eye is very clear which is what makes me think it may not be the eye cap

Ya seems like abit of the eye cap is still on. Id leave it alone till next shed.

OK, thanks for the responses-the reason I didn't think eyecap was because it was just at the edges, and the center of his eye is clear. I have just been keeping watch to see if it starts looking like something else might be wrong.

I don't think it is an eye cap I have seen a picture like that before here a few months ago and there was an explination given at the time but I do not remember what they said right now.

Your photo reminded me of a similar photo taken of my rescue male when I adopted him in 2008. He had a lot of infected wound trauma (from unsupervised live feedings), RI, belly rot, dehydration, and remains of several bad sheds, especially his eye caps. In this photo you can see some of the residual shed around one of his eyes. Took several soaks, and some washcloth-in-a-pillowcase action, but a couple of sheds later, both eye caps came off without damage.

A check up by an experienced herp vet is a prudent idea... however the forum has many horror posts about permanent damage caused by unqualified or inexperienced "help" poking around with the snake's eyes.

Just wanted to post an update-he finally shed again, and his eye looks normal again! I was planning on taking him to the vet this weekend had it not changed after his shed. Thanks again for all the responses!

My snake Cleo has the same thing--it doesn't go away after sheds. :( I wonder what it is?
