    Hidden Gene Lessers?
I am a little confused about these guys. Is NERDS line the same as Ralphs and do they make the same combos

    Thank You

the lessers have a "daddy platy" gene, this might be the "hidden".

I thought only the sibs to of daddy platy cluthces carried this. How is it that NERDS line has the hidden gene in the lesser without it expressing itself?

    Huh!

Interesting. This is actually the first I've heard of them.

I had been under the impression that the soul sucker was "just" HGW x lesser, but it looks like NERD suspects there is a 3rd gene at work as well ..?

I wonder if it's really a "hidden" (extra, epistatic) gene, or if it's a new member of the famed "BEL complex" ... Or what?

And if you don't get a "soul sucker" breeding HGW x lesser -- what do you get?

Hmm, I may have answered my own question ...

    I guess this:

    http://newenglandreptile.com/nerd/in...-platinum.html

Is "just" an HGW x lesser.

The "soul sucker" evidently has a more light pigmentation to it:

    http://newenglandreptile.com/nerd/in...ul-sucker.html

... So it seems maybe the "hidden gene" in that combo is what you might call a "highlighter" gene ..?

Still can't tell if it's a whole separate gene or a different bloodline of lessers (ie, a completely different morph), tho ...

Kevin said that the hidden gene lesser came from Noah. Noah breed a "Daddy Platy" to a "Queen Belinda" and made hidden gene lessers. I also remember Ralph saying that a lesser can not have a "Daddy Platy" gene, so my assumption is that the hidden gene refers to the "Queen Belinda" gene. Kevin gets into brief detail in the 2010 September Reptile Radio episode.

Did some searching and apparently this "Queen Bellinda" is a mystery snake that was breed to a Daddy platty. So im starting to think that it may not be the daddy gene but something that came from the QB. I wonder if these "HG Lessers" can reproduce themselves or transfer that hidden gene to something other than itself such as a normal.

I have no constructive comments, but I'm pretty sure "Queen Belinda" is my favorite morph name yet.

I think that whole project is "Top Secret", thou Kevin just might be willing to indulge what he knows about the "Queen Bellinda" morph. Give him a call the worse he can say is no. Good luck!

I own a Lesser from Nerd and also other lessers. I purchased a hidden gene woma granite yb from Kevin as well. I asked for a lesser from a soul sucker clutch just to make sure that I got the HG they talk about. I can say that the color between Nerd's "HG" lesser and my other lessers is alot different. I plan on crossing the HG woma granite yb with both lines of lesser just to see what happens with the soul suckers.

OK so here they are. Sorry but this was a quick shoot. The quality of the pics could of been alot better but you can see the differnce in color. The NERD line lesser is not stripped and the rest are. I tried to get a few different pics to show the differnce. The NERD line is alot more platinum looking in person. The others have alot more yellow to them.

Is the lack of striping a genetic trait?

    Re: Hidden Gene Lessers?
The NERD lesser is an 09 and the stripped female is an 08.

I will have two pairings this seson to test Kevins theory on his Lessers.

#1 HG woma granite yb male x stripped Lesser female
    &
#2 HG woma granite yb female x NERD Lesser male

If I get soul suckers from pairing #1 then NERD's Lessers are no different. If #1 does not produce soul suckers it should produce HG woma/Lessers. At this point if Kevin's theory is correct I will get Soul Suckers in #2 and HG woma/Lessers in #1. Now all I can do is keep my fingers crossed that both females produce this season. They are both borderline ready.

Hmm, I really like the striping :)

The NERD line lesser reminds me a bit of my butter female; she doesn't have any striping either. Yours looks a lot lighter and blushier, though.

    Re: Hidden Gene Lessers?
Kevin mentioned to me that he had bred both his own line of lesser and a different line of lesser to his HG woma and had only produced Soul Suckers from his own line.

    Re: Hidden Gene Lessers?
Correct that is the theory. I just dont understnad how breeding the Pladdy Daddy to the "Queen Belinda" made a lesser that carries a mystery gene and this mystery gene gets passed on to every lesser made by using their lessers. This is the claim by Kevin. Yes his lesser looks different to me and I am not doubting that Kevin has proved that the Soul Sucker is from only his Lessers. But on a side note when I purchased the HG woma granite Yb from NERD I dealt with Andy over the phone. This was just in March of 09. Andy told me then that they had never tried breeding the HG woma to any lessers but their line of Lessers. Since then Kevin has said differnet. Alot of mixed things are said up there at NERD. It is hard to keep secrets and always have the same story..lol..

So my question is how does every lesser produced by the NERD line of Lessers receive the HG. This statement was made by Kevin on an interview on Reptile Radio. I dont know of any morph other then suppers that pass on a gene to every offspring. If its the Pladdy Daddy gene that is the HG, well the lessers dont carry that HG its the normal offspring that carry the HG.

But a pladdy daddy is basicaly a lesser with the HG as far as I knew...

If I remembver the story right from RDR it's.. bought a paddy daddy. bread it. got normal ( looking) and lessers.. later bread normal looking back to lessers and ended up with paddy daddy's again..

I wonder how the "HG" lesser would effect a "fader" gene animal:)

    Re: Hidden Gene Lessers?
No the Pladdy Daddy was imported in and was bred to normals. This produced normals and platinum snakes that just were not as platinum as the Pladdy Daddy. So there is where we got the name Lesser Platinum. Everyone bought Lessers at a very high price thinking they were the key to reproducing the Pladdy. After numbers of breedings and no one ever reproducing the Pladdy Daddy, RDR figures it out. It was the normal siblings from breeding Pladdy Daddy to normals that carry the HG. So by breeding a Pladdy Daddy to a HG normal you produce Pladdy Daddys. Breeding Lessers to HG normal produces Pladdy Daddys. I also think breeding Lesser to Pladdy Daddy will reproduce Pladdy Daddys.

I believe this to be how it happened. These are just things I have gathered from reading and looking at RDRs birthing records. I am not 100% that he was the first to reproduce the Pladdy Daddy but I think I recall that for some reason.
