Gourmet rodents ,F/T SAFE?

So I've been thinking about switching to F/t lately,and i went to my local petco and the frozen mouse brand they have is called "GourmetRodent".Now i hear a lot when feeding frozen thawed watch who you buy from.So are these guys any good.Are the rodents safe and how long can you store them in the freezer before they go bad.Pleas answer this is a very important thread and all input will be greatly appreciated,Thank you!

So I don't know as far as what their reputation is, but the petco F/T rodents are the only ones that I can get ahold of for my creatures. I haven't had any problems with them other than sometimes getting inconsistent sizes and bloody creatures (i dunno if thats abnormal but its still kinda gross). I don't usually wait much time between buying them and feeding them as far as your question about storing. I buy them before I'm ready to feed, thaw them in some tepid water (while still in the bag), and then heat them up with a blow drier once they're thawed out (should be soft-ish to the touch and not hard as a rock). After that we all know how the show goes.

I use the same brand o f/t and ive never had a problem. As for storing. Just treat them like fresh beef. Frozen last for a long time. So feel free to stock up for a few months. Yeah the size thing is inconsistant but just buy a size up if thats a consistant problem. Also there are site you can buy bulk rats/mice frozen and shipped pretty cheap. And they give you length and weight in grams of their rodents. No wirries either if a bp dont eat it off the bat. You can refreeze. But keep in mind refeezing causes a breakdown in the rodents tissue and is less nutritious after first rethaw. Saying that, dont refreeze more than once and u should be fine.

I used Petco's brand, never had any problems except for the pricing is really high. :/

i have fed them when i first moved back up here and didnt have anything else and i was satisfied with the product but they were too expensive for rats. orer from www.rodentpro.com and just store them in the freezer. good pricese and great quality.

I bought 2 from there and I had the same problem

Thanks for the input i brought 3packs of adult mice.I opened one pack (just to check if every thing was good) they look pretty clean its just one of the mice was missing a few toes (should i be worried about that?).As for rodentpro.com i hear about them a lot and only good things its just they ship a lot of mice/rats at a time and my parents will not be to happy about the frozen rat shelf in the freezer.I will try and get a mini fridge for my room.For now gourmet rodent is good the packages the mice come in are rather small so its easy to store in the freezer and really does not take up any space at all.

The Petco mice are fine but too expensive. I get mine from the local Herp club I belong to. Google to see if you have one reasonably close to you.

How are frozen mice suppose to smell? i just opened the package and it smells a bit funny not to bad but its just smells a bit funny and its kind of bloody?

it kind of smells like a wet dog.

Is it bad to keep frozen rodents for a year? I get bulk rabbits and rats from rodentpro and its a years supply... Ive been doing this for a year now.

While i was in a freak out stage(lol) over a perfectly good rodent i did a little research,and from what i read you can keep frozen rodents in the freezer up to a 6months before they are considered no good.But after 6 months thats it.

I think the smell comes more from the package than the rat. Missing toes could have just been broken off in moving around I've had some with only half a tail still attached. I occasionally get the frozen from petco in a pinch.
