Live or F/T?
I have a baby ball and she's on live hopper mice right now. I'm going to be breeding her in the future and was wondering if it would benefit me and her to switch her over to F/T. I was thinking it would be so during breeding it would be easier for her to feed instead of making her chase her food down and have to use a lot of energy killing it then eating it.
If ya'll have anything I would love to hear it. Thanx:D

Keep her on live, as long as its consistent and easy for you. I like feeding live because it's easier and even though you don't want your snake to have to work too hard, they were told by mother nature to hunt, kill, and eat their prey. So let them do what they were meant to do and feed live!

Haha I agree with you steve but, idk. I'm still thinking about...

I would try switching to live rats first and then work on F/T...

Well in about a month or two im going to be switching her over to ASF's. I just need to build a rack for the colony I already have and get them started.
The reason I don't feed rats is because, I breed mice and its just a lot easier and my balls like them. So it just works.

I prefer F/T, so much easier to keep and store.

Feed what works for her and is convenient for you :gj:

Short answer, NO
Whether they breed or not does not matter when it comes to feeding, all my breeders eat live.

Re: Live or F/T?
The only way a larger snake needs to chase their meal is if your using tanks
I would think long and hard about switching any future breeders to asf's.
It takes twice as long to get an asf to size to feed a large snake.
I only feed asf's to stubborn mouse eaters that won't eat rats...
F/T or live is a personal choice, I only feed live to my crew.

my baby ball refused F/T three separate times, and i finally got her to eat a live fuzzy. i have heard of some balls being really picky, refusing food that isn't big enough or if it isn't lively enough.

I just built a rack system for my mice! I think once I get my colony going that it will be better for me! I had a litter of 12 3 weeks ago. Plus had a litter of 10 a few days ago. I also have a female about to pop! So, guess I got it up and going! So, I can go with live or f/t or fresh kill!

I think im just going to keep her on live. She does good on it so why switch her over.
Thanx everyone:)

It's not really any harder for them. Once they grow up a bit BPs are much more efficient killers. One strike, normally right away, a short constriction, and down the hatch they go.
It's really up to you on what you want to do. If you prefer f/t then go with f/t. I personally prefer live for several reasons, no rat shelf in my freezer, no thawing/warming, no smelly rats in the morning when they decide they aren't eating it, no wasted rats, etc. If they refuse a live rat you can put it in with another one, or put it back in the cage. F/t can only be refroze once, then they are much. I've wasted so many f/t rats....
