For the newer snakes I use paper towel so I can monitor stool and check for mites, etc.

Once I know they're good, I put them on coconut bedding to help me with humidity :gj:

I use paper towels for babies-Juvi's and printed newspaper for my adults and I have no humidity issues.

I use Aspen Sani-Chips. I get it at shows to save on shipping, but you can order it online here:

    http://www.nationalpetpharmacy.com/C...d/Native-Earth

You can get the 2.2cu ft of Sani-Chips, which is a 20lbs bag or you can get the Shredded Aspen in a 4.3cu ft bag which is 36lbs...

i used the aspen, but it sticks to everything, and you end up having to clean up every time you open the tank. also, it sucks the moisture out of everything, so humidity was an issue. i went and got two of those reptile carpets, they work fine so far.

    1) they're easy to clean
    2) they insulate against that hot UTH, the hottest it gets in the warm side hide (totally depends on house temp) is usually 90, and that's if its warm inside, usually it's mid to high 80's
    3) for humidity, i have a large bowl with sphagnum moss, and i throw some into the two hides as well. stays moist for 3 to 5 days. i check it when i change the water. and you can rinse it, ring it out and use it again. up to 4 weeks they say, unless it gets soiled.

by having two, you have one cleaned and ready to swap out whenever the one in the tank gets messy. i suggest heavy decorations in the tank to prevent your snake from trying to crawl under the carpet against the glass.

    just use unprinted paper towels.

if you wanna get triple hippie, you can take newspaper, soak it in water, blend it until it's pulp, and then take a screen, pour it out over the screen (take some like 2x4s and make a box with the screen on the bottom) and then press it, and let it dry. fresh paper, and most if not all of the bad chem from the ink should be leeched out by the water.

Personally I use coco coir it is also cheap depending where you get it, I got a 50 kg bail from a local green house for 150$ That is 5500 L of expanded coir I used 100L every 3 months, so about 5 years worth.
