    New zodiac sign?
So today I find out that apparently I'm no longer a Sagittarius. I got bumped to some new 13th Zodiac sign. Ophiuchus a.k.a. Serpentarius. Wtf is that?

Sagittarius Serpentarius (Secretary Bird), the heterotic result of a compromise between the scientific and unscientific approach to the zodiacal constellations. It is an extraordinary bird of prey in the "least concern" category. The word "secretary" comes from the pencils that it stores for the secretaries. According to others, they're arrows which is why it is a Sagittarius. But the bird likes to eat snakes which is why it is Serpentarius.

    Does this help a lil?

I don't think the bird has anything to do with the sign, the specific epithet in the scientific name just happens to match the other name, serpentarius. Apparently I was born under it as well. Kinda like it, to be honest :P I relate better to "serpent-bearer" than to a centaur xD

Facebook was all buzzed today with people posting on this. Makes me wonder how the astrolgers didn't pick up on this and how they were able to give out forcast for each sign daily.

On a side note, your sign HASN'T changed. We use the western, or tropical version of astrology here. It is based on the seasons. In the east, they use the sidereal, which is based off constellations. For them, there is now a 13th sign and others signs have been realligned.

    Here's an article on it:

There are two different zodiac systems the tropical and the sidereal the 1st zodiac is the traditonal and the other has 13 signs. It's all explained in the following link.

There are only 12 zodiac signs. Today I made an extensive search on the internet and I found that most of the astrologists do not consider Ophiuchus as a sign. Therefore I would request him to stop worrying about his zodiac sign because his future depends on his hard work and not his zodiac sign.

You're sign hasn't changed, you are whatever you were born under.

Only the people born after the change have the new signs. It's sort of like leap year, the calendar changes don't affect you later, just because your birthday doesn't exist one year doesn't mean you aren't any older, what matters is when you were born. The zodiacs needed some shifting, we all knew it would happen one day, but the shift started this year. It's not retroactive.

Don't get your knickers in a bunch, you're fine :)

Not all astrologers agree with the change, so it's up to you, that's just my two cents :) But it doesn't make sense to me that your sign would change from what you were born as because the zodiacs were adjusted in 2011. By the way, that 13th zodiac, Ophiuchus, was dropped by Babylonians thousands of years ago. It's not a new zodiac.

Edit: If my personality and the personalities of the people I know suddenly change I'll have a different opinion on this matter, but I'm guessing we won't see that happen. So I'm sticking with, you are what you were born under, unless you want to change, then I suppose you could :P
