Help with female
I have a normal female who has been in with a male twice with a lock witnessed the second time. In 3 days she has put on 47grams. she is looking a little bigger too. Is this too soon for her to be gravid and going into ovulation?
The weight gain seems a bit much for 3 days. This is my first time breeding balls to.

Re: Help with female
I'm also a newbie to breeding. However, from what I have been taught by the people on this forum. I believe that yes that is too soon. Some other questions be asked. First, what is her weight? Second, are you sure you witnessed a lock? BPs will tail wrap withou being locked. Third, Can you post some pics of her or them?

Hey, It was definatly a lock as I could see through the side of the tub. She was 1372g(empty) on friday and was weighed again today with all my others and was 1419g
I can't get any pics up yet as I am using my phone but will do tomorrow.
I have read that ovulation can occur 6 to 30 days after copulation but am not sure as she has only been with a male twice.

Re: Help with female
she may be building follicles, when she ovulates you will know it, she will look like she has swollowed a rabbit. she might just be building right now in preparation for ovulation. When did you feed her last?

she was fed last tuesday. I will keep an eye on her today and tomorrow so I'll see any changes.

Re: Help with female
Cool, keep us posted. I know how exciting it is and how anxious we as owners can be. Patients is the key. Also, from what I have read and been taught, she seems like she might be a little small to be breeding. I guess that depends on her age and her length compared to her weight.

From what I have read and learnt, over 1200g is ok to breed, she is 4yrs old and pretty big. I started her at 1300g.

I see one issue. Nothing grows unless it eats and/or drinks. Developing eggs does not make a girl weigh more. She has to use her own body fat deposits to make eggs. With that said I would say you either fed her accidentally and didn't realize it or you didn't weigh her properly the first or second time.

right. and IMO 1300 grams is incredibly low for a female to begin breeding. since you've already started her just be sure to keep a careful eye on her and weigh her often to monitor weight loss.

These are the best I got (took with my phone today)
She has gone to 1600 now in a week with one feed. She has also gone into shed (could just be a normal shed). What do you guys think? Building or already ovulated when I first saw she was bigger?
Cheers :)

Re: Help with female
anyone?
Does it look like building or possible ovulation as she did look bigger than that for about a day and a half.

ovulation looks like they swallowed a football. it's pretty hard not to notice especially if you were to only hAve a few snakes. if she has ovulated then this shed could very well be her post ovulation shed which means you better get your incubator ready. have you palpated her recently? that would let you know how far along follicle growth is.
hope this helps.

I have tried to palapte and I think they are pretty big. She looked like she had eaten a large rat but was gone with in 48hrs. This is my first time breeding balls so am still uncertain exactly what folicles feel like and what ovulation looks like (have seen loads of pics)
I will palpate again after she sheds, will they feel any different if she has ovulated?
I have had the incubator ready since I first put them together :P a nice converted viv set to 89.5 :D

Re: Help with female
sorry for the double post, should I keep pairing her with a male or leave it to see if she lays?

after ovulation the follicles will be considerably large as opposed to the dime size follicles you feel when she is in the early stages of building. since she just shed it could either be a shed before ovulation or it could be a pre egg laying shed. without seeing that ovulation you wouldn't know unless you can actually feel the size of the follicles. if they are still around dime/nickel size then I'd say that shed was most likely a shed before ovulation. there's no real time line as far as pre ovulation sheds but just keep an out for it. as far as pairing goes, what I'm doing with mine is I'm pairing them all the way up until ovulation or the female refuses multiple times. if she's not gonna have it there's no making her :)
this is my first year breeding too so I feel your excitement haha, my female is about to start a pre ovulation shed cycle so we could be in the same boat.
hope this helps.
