Generators

My power went out about 5 hours ago, and since it is 21 degrees outside I had to go buy a generator at Lowes so my babies wouldn't freeze to death.

Its working okay, but my TStats have been flickering sometimes and are resetting every now and then. I know I should have bought a generator with an inverter, but I couldn't find any stores around here that had one in stock. Can anyone recommend a standalone inverter or UPS or something that might correct this?

What kind of thermostats do you have hooked up to the generator? I proportional thermostats have problems when hooked up to UPS's and generators, with ON/OFF type you should have no trouble.

my husband just bought this heating unit that fits on top of a propane tank....I gotta tell ya its awesome. Very inexpensive and simple to use and even if you had it on high it would heat a room for 48 hours straight on 1 tank.

He got it as he LOVES to work out in the garage and it can heat the entire garage to a balmy 75 on low. :gj:

You don't have any problems with fumes?

I would not trust any electronics to run on a cheap generator voltage will vary. I know Honda generators are alot more stable with the voltages. Heat lamps would do the trick.

Yeah there is something about the proportionals where they need a certain type of sine wave. For generators a on/off relay type thermostat should work fine.

I had the same thought. Looks like there are some that are designed for indoor use, although all of the tank-top ones i could find were outdoor only...
