Black Eyed White asf's
I know there are a few people on here that now have the black eyed white ASF's in their colonies... And the ones with the black ears.
Did you make them yourself, or did you buy them from someone else?
If you made them yourself, how did you do it specifically?
Is there ANYONE on the east coast (or anyone that plans to travel to the east coast) that has them available????
Mikey

They are awesome looking, I have only seen pics and dont know anyone on the east with them.

+1 let me know
Mike, from what two friends of mine have told me is that they just bred higher and higher white pieds until they made all white, and whole litters of em. Black ears though, in Wisconsin and in Arizona. Might go pick some up some day. Probably not though.
-
Mike, I want a trio too. Maybe we can pool together or something.

Breeding for high white is generally how it's done. It can be accomplished in just a few generations with good selection.
If you want BEW, select away from black or brown ears, and breed together the animals with the fewest agouti spots.
If you want Platinum, select ONLY animals with black or brown ears, and breed the animals with, again, the fewest agouti spots.

Really? Have you produced any yet?
I know it isn't that easy. I have been trying to selectively breed to produce them for YEARS with no luck.

It is that easy.
It's how you'd do it with any other rodent, and it's the way I've heard of it done by other breeders I've asked and talked with.
The selecting is the biggest part of it. If you don't have a good eye, you can't get anywhere with breeding. In 2 generations, I've gone from sadles and spots on the backs, to just saddles, and I'm hoping in the next litters I will get some smaller saddles, and just progress from there.
There are other ways of getting BEW in mice and rats and gerbils etc. But the most common way to get a BEW or Platinum in ASFs is selective breeding for white markings, since there are nearly no genetic modifiers available for ASFs. (A tleast that are available to the public, labs are a different story)
Here's some good info on white ASFs of all kinds:

Mike, et al.... please cease soliciting for anyone who can procure the for you in this thread. It already has crossed the line into a " want " ad, but it's Christmas time so I'm letting it slide this time.
Good luck in your finding your elusive ASF.

LOL, thanks Robin. It was not my intention to break the TOS!!! I am sorry. And thank you for the Christmas present.
Don't worry, it didn't net me any anyway... looks like the closest one is still on the other side of the country!
One of these days.... ;)

Someone has them in TN I believe. I wish I could remember who.
Or maybe it was Ohio. Wherever it was, it was within a painful driving distance (10 hours or so) from me. :P
I'll take photos of my progress tomorrow if I get the chance. :)

Re: Black Eyed White asf's
Hi Mikey,
I have produced a black eyed white w/ black ears (Platinum)and a pink eyed white so far. I will try to post some pictures tonight. I started with a 1.5 group of pieds. In my first litter they threw a high white pied. I liked the looks of the animals so I kept all the high white pieds. I get a black or red eyed white in about every 100 that I produce (2nd generation). I get a lot of high white pieds. Both animals that I produced are not old enough to breed yet. They are both females and will be bred back to their father. I have a few groups of high white pieds that are almost old enough to breed. I am expecting them to throw the whites a lot more. Rhasputin is 100% correct on how to get them. The trick is finding a high white pied or another animal that carries the trait.
Hope this helps,
Stephanie

Here are some pictures!
This is a extremely high white guy (I have a hold back group colored like him that are almost ready to breed! I am hoping for a higher percentage of whites!) I wish I had more room or someone in Ohio with interest. This little guy is probably going to be someones dinner.:(

Another hold back group and some purchases that I'm growing up! I can't wait to mix these guys with my high whites!

I'm sure I will get a lot more white ones in the 3rd and 4th generations!

Re: Black Eyed White asf's
I'm in WV and am working on the project. The genes are in there for the pink eyed solid whites, the solid whites with black eyes and pink ears, and the solid whites with black eyes and grey ears. I think within the next few generations I'll nail it. The most recent batch of youngsters I'd paired have given me some babies with just a smudge of color on the backs of their necks.
I've been blessed with good luck so far. I just started picking out pieds that had a bit more white than usual and went from there.

Re: Black Eyed White asf's
I purchased my white w/black ears ASFs from Carl Vail at the Wheaton IL All Animal Expo. I sold all my colonies when we moved though so I didn't get a chance to try to produce an all white ASF with pink eyes. Carl told me that he just kept breeding high white ASFs together and so on until he produced the white ones.
(I think I PM'd you with his # but don't remember, lol)
Its funny, I actually miss breeding these little guys. And some of my snakes miss them too .
