Flex watt

I ordered some flex watt the other day along with the cords and metal clips from the bean farm and forgot to order the plastic caps that cover the metal clips and was wondering if i really need them .Was thinking about just using electric tape ..what do you think? Thanks

Electric tape is fine. Just make sure that the clips are covered completely and the tubs aren't rubbing against it.

Yeap, just wrapped up any metal part nicely and you should be safe.

I took the plastic caps off mine and wrapped with electrical tape with no ill effects, so you should be good!

You really don't need anything over them. As long as the clips are away from anything touching them.
BUT it is a wise idea to cover them to cover yourself. It's better to be safe then sorry. Electrical tape will do fine.

It is very different. Electrical outlet's and breaker's arent exposed even without their covers. Yes, if you go digging for some loose wire or unprotected insides to the casing your going to get zapped, but even then electrical tape will do the job.

He was merely defending himself, as your post is entirely non-beneficial in any way whatsoever. You dont need to put outer body work on a car either, but for functionality and longevity, it is essential that you do have one. That doesnt mean you have to use the one standardized one.

Ultimately, I think its pretty dumb that they dont just add the caps to the price and include them with the product.

The covers are there for a reason, and it's not for functionality or longevity. It's simply not wise to leave live wires exposed anywhere in the house, especially in an area where you're going to have daily contact. I don't even know why it was mentioned as a possibility.

Yes, but he was asking for an alternative for the covers, as he had forgotten to order them. Not to be criticised for not having them.

One of those answers are completely useless, and probally already obvious to the person asking the question. So be a man, and show some respect. He wanted a solution.

and As for the author,

Electrical tape should do fine, as long as it is covering what the caps would be covering. (Be sure to watch it for the first little while, to see how well it remains adhesive with the heat being applied to it)

Did you bother to read any of the posts besides the first and last? I already told the author that electrical tape was fine. I wasn't criticizing him. I was criticizing the guy that suggested that leaving it uncovered was acceptable.

^^you really should read yourself, never said it was acceptable :colbert: Words never left my mouth or were even imposed. Now can you leave it uncovered and run risk? Sure. And like I said already, you should cover them. Your comments to this thread are irrelevant besides your first post.

Moving on.........just cover the metal clamps (electrical tape does fine and if you want the plastic clamps Reptile Basics has a few people at local shows that I am sure will have plastic clips for sale that should fit the other flexwatt clamps seeing the metal clips are the same) to save yourself from shock or fire hazards, even though you could leave them uncovered it would not be a wise option and is highly unrecommended.

Beyond that I never said it was acceptable I just I can be done with certain precautions taken. Much different from each other. But you know that, seeing your such a smart guy. :rolleye2: But what do I know, I'm just a genius. :cool:

The metal clips are unnecessary in all honesty. You can just use electrical tape to cover the metal clips. Make sure you cover the other end with electrical tape as well.

Also, please try and play nice! We're here to help people in their endeavors, not fill up useful threads with nonsense. I will agree it's not a great idea to advise not covering the metal clips, but a simple response would have been all that was necessary. The metal clips do have electrical current running through them, just like the opposite end of the flexwatt needs to be covered-where the sliver strips are, the metal clips need covered. If you ever touched the metal clips you would be shocked, and it doesn't feel nice, trust me ;) I would also be worried about the fire hazard.

This is coming from someone who has been shocked by flexwatt.

Never leave any live electrical connection uncovered. Ever. No matter what. No excuses. Ever!

On that note... The wire connectors are useless. They have to be tightened on the flexwatt using superhuman strength if you don't have the tool. Use solder or ring terminals.
