What camera/lens are you using?
Canon 50 DSLR w/ 28-135 lense. I have a few other lenses, but this one seemed to be what was needed for this type of photography. It helps when you have a 32 gig memory card too. I can keep on snapping pictures and just delete the bad ones. Two trips last Summer and over 2800 pictures. Not all on the water. I took a lot of shots from around the Town of Gloucester and the many beaches of Cape Ann. Rockport was really interesting.
I think Santa may bring me the new Tamron 18-270 f/3.5-6.3 lense. I don't really like the F stop but dollar for dollar, it's probably the best deal out there now.
Thank You!

I've got a few of my pictures that are going to be included in a book on whalewatching. The one you like is very similar to the one going in the book. I have given up my rights to the pictures going into the book, but I did get a nice little check for my efforts.

Won't it be a shame if your grandkids can't go on a trip and take the same pics in the future?
Are you sure you really weren't on a scouting mission for the whalers?:P:D

The funny thing is, when you open the forums you can see the thread and who was the last to post on it. You need to click on off topic to see who started it. There was no need for BG to do this. Once BG saw the thread topic. He was absolutely sure who started it.:rofl::rofl::rofl:
BG is really starting to love you Smitty.:rofl:

I've looked into Va Beach and dollar for dollar, Gloucester is the best deal. Many more whales, even more than Alaska. The wife and I looked into Alaska and they say you can see 6 or more whales, but they are happy if they see 2 each day.
We went 3 times last Summer and each time we saw anywhere from 6 to 25 whales each day. Seven Seas Whale Watching is my choice and I would HIGHLY recommend them.
But if you can't make Gloucester, find a place where you can see them. They are an outstanding sight to see.

I did have an amazing experience though....Tristen was about 1 1/2 years old when we went and I was holding him so that he could see the whales. A mama whale and her baby swam over to the boat and it seemed like she was lifting up her baby right next to the boat ....kind of like you show me yours I will show you mine. It was super super amazing experience.
We also went shark diving a different time in HI and that was really fun.....I DID get great pictures that time. Trying to talk my hubby into doing a great white dive near the Galapagos Islands....so far he isn't going for it.
BG....stop poking that is rude!!
Sounds like you had a really great time too. We're probably going to Hawaii this Spring/early Summer. Maybe a shark dive is in my future!
Thanks!

great shots I suck at pics taking. I know in Delaware during the summer early mornign there a pos of dophins that dwim up and down just off the beachs I seen them many a time when I helped my grandmother at a hotel she worked at on sundays( to save her and the other ladies from making trips up and down stairs all day.) I get ot watch them swim about 200 ft off the beach or so. I just wish I had a real camera instead of the elcheapo point and shoot ones like I got they great fro some things but others they suck specially when you don't have any skills lol

Tell the hubby he can go to the "Galapagos Islands" and be a Sea Shepherd volunteer. Oh wait....BG forgot....they're only in Japan.....not.;):D
Now would BG ever do such a thing as "poke".;) Big Gunns is wondering if those pics weren't really taken from Smitty's own personal whaling ship though. This would explain his obvious dislike for Sea Shepherd.:rofl:
To be honest. BG thinks that him and Smitty have turned a corner in their love affair.

The shark dive we did was off of Oahu...it was really fun...they were a bit smaller about 6 to 8 ft. I highly recommend it. But...if you are going to HI I recommend going to Maui...that is (in my opinion) the best island.
