I am a happy daddy! :D

Some of you on this forum may remember my issues regarding my Queen Elizabeth, and her pink coloring and the "orange" splotches all over...
some members of this community said that it could be scale rot, or burns from a heating pad or it could be that she was officially shedding (since it is my first snake, and I got her at 3 feet so I had never seen shedding before) and thus my husbandry was put into question...
so after I got through with that thread, I went about changing my babies substrate from aspen shavings (>.<) to newspaper... and to solve the issues of not having a rheostat on my heating pad, I just put a hand towel in between the glass and substrate to diffuse the heating coming from it.
I am happy, (and SO relieved), to say that she was indeed shedding... she finally finished this morning... its been almost 9 days since I noticed her coloring... but now she is SO PRETTY! like... so much more... vibrant than I remember her... and her coloring is an almost yellow instead of a brown that I remember her as...
when I woke up this morning, I went to her aquarium to find many, many shed pieces of skin (now I know it is supposed to come off in one long piece, so I will go ahead and shoot my husbandry down and say that I am still getting humidity down... but it was full pieces... and she didn't have one flake on her left over, so I didn't have a "bad" shed (per se).
Ontop of that, under her coolside hide, was urates and feces, so its like she just.... cleaned herself completely...
and when I woke her up from under her warm side, she hissed a little, which I attributed to her saying: "Dad wth its only 8am!" and as soon as I had her on my shoulders so I could change her newspaper (which proved to be MUCH easier than aspen.... I just balled it up, poop and skin and all, and replaced it with new sheets of paper :D:D) she was roaming around and very alive and active and flicking her tongue everywhere (I think someone is hungry!!!! :D)
As a side note: I had bought her a FT rat last friday (since I feed her every friday) but she was just entering the gray eye phase of her shed, so she completely ignored it... but I think that since its been two weeks since she has ate, and she is all new she will probably eat.

Sorry for SUCH a long message, but I am SO relieved and thought I would share it :D (because my parents wouldn't understand ^-^)

congrats!:D... so im guessing the orange spots on the belly went away with the shed? welcome to "BP.net" btw...:D

That's a great report! Any complete shed that doesn't require our assistance is a good shed in my book. ;) Although the one-piece sheds are certainly easier to clean up after. LOL

I do hope the towel in the tank is just a stop-gap method until you can get your hands on a thermostat. Your peace of mind and the snake's future health will both be better for it. ;)

Now then....were are the pictures?!?!? :taz: :P

I'm not too far from you. I'm not a veteran or anything like that - I've only had my snakes for 2 years, but I can help with some basic husbandry set-up.

Dude you can pic a rheostat from big apple pet supply for like 20 bucks. I mean, thats cheeeap for the protection you will be providing your snake.
Ya they usually do poop when they shed, and they are usually ravenous after. GL with your lil one!!

I live in florida... and in my city we don't have that store :D
but yea I am gonna get her food today after I get out of class (boo college micro economics!) :D
I am going to get a temp gun and a rheostat as soon as I get my refund check from college :D (as of now I don't have money so I just constantly inspect her for burns or anyting and if I notice anyting... I will def post on here :D

Go to Lowe's. The have lamp dimmers for around $6 that should hold you over until your refund check comes in. Then go for a proportional thermostat such as a Herpstat or Helix. The peace-of-mind and the welfare of your snake is well worth the cost.

you can use a spray bottle and give the snake a few light mists of water just prior to shedding. i have found that it makes the shedding process much easier. i do this in the winter time when the heater tends to dry the air out and i always get one piece sheds.

She's very pretty! Mine is getting the pinkish belly ( I think) so she should shed soon (so nervous about that)

The first time is the worst! :D:D I am still nervous about it... but she is happy and alive now.. and she just ate yesterday... it took some... coaxing... but she did... and she got it down fairly quickly once she took it :D
Just make sure you don't presoak your ball before the shed... apparently its not good for their shed (I did this before her shed lol)
So you may be able to mist her lightly with water... but dont let her swim in a bath or anything... and if you mist your snake... make sure the water is room temperature... and make sure you do it from far-ish away to reduce the possibility of respiratory infections. And please let me know as your ball starts to shed :D I would love to see if yours happens as mine did :)
