Getting virgin males to breed!

I have a spider male that is 763 grams and producing sperm. I have paired him with two females twice each and I have not seen any locks. The females are 3 and 4 year olds that weigh 1784 grams and 2213 grams. I have misted them, put in another males shed, sperm of another male on the females back and I keep him in for 4 days! With the one female, I see her cuddled around him but no locks! What else can I do to get him going?

It might not be him. I have a lot of females who prefer to start later in the season, and I never see locks with them early on, no matter which male I'm using.

Any other ideas anyone!

Sorry I don't have any further advice than has already been given but I will say that I am in your exact same boat and have tried all the same things with no luck. I have a 2yr male bee at 1400gs that would not breed last year and so far has not locked this season either.

I'm hoping the problem is just that the females I am putting him with aren't ready as WingedWolfPsion proposed.

I have some other snakes breeding but those females are exhibiting signs of being ready (i.e. staying on the cool side, off feed, tail wagging)

The females I have put with the bee with no luck are still on feed and still staying on the hot side.

Are the females you are putting your male with exhibiting ready to breed behavior?

You could try putting him with a female you know is locking, and watch him. If he courts her, you know he's fine, and you can remove him before he breeds your 'test female'.

Another trick--put the freshly shed skin of a female who IS locking in with your females who are not. It might spur the male to court them. It's worked for me at least once.

Use a bottle of water with another males shed in it, and wet down the cage ( Mist ). Or put another males sperm plugs on the females back. Works like a charm :gj:

It's real early, don't worry. I haven't even put most of my bps together yet.

There are some good suggestions above. But, another "trick" I've used is to put the male in question in a females bin right after another male has bred with her. Even if it's not the female you want him to breed this may work to get him going.

I am having some trouble too. Female shows signs of bowl wrapping, cool side but what is the tail wag??

They literally wag the end of their tail to say come and get me big boy! It lets out their scent out and you will see it all over the ground!

Once I have a male shed, I will try the water bottle scent!

Give it time. I have many virgins this year that court but no locks yet. But all females have locked other males. Still early, wait for those snow storms to roll in.

Ya we haven't had that white stuff yet! It's my first year breeding, maybe I am just being impatient

First Breedings can be never ending road. But basically set it forget it. I keep my mind occupied when not pairing to keep mind off it.

Eggs wouldn't bother me as I know they will hatch! My worry with locks is that they won't and then I don't get eggs. I only have 3 females breeding. I got everything ready for eggs and babies and would like to use what I spent so much money on. Oh well, I guess I need to just wait it out and cross my fingers!

You know what just worked for me that I haven't seen mentioned on this thread yet is to put the male in with the female while she's in shed.

A buddy of mine also recommended popping the male right before putting him in with the female, and I guess I did that too so I can't say for sure which worked ... I reckon it was the shedding though.

Also, with my bloods, I switched them from newspaper to aspen and they were locked the next day ... Haven't tried that with the BPs yet, though. (Kinda hoping I won't even need to ..! :banana: )

Before you put the male in with the female next time, pinch him a bit (pretty much do anything to pi$s him off)...this gets them going....Don't actually do it hard enough to hurt them, though...

you never KNOW they will hatch, and even if they lock you could always not get eggs or slug out. you can also get eggs that are infertile or just go bad for no/whatever reason. or babies that die in the eggs for whatever reason. we had a female last year, she locked up more than any other female, and didnt lay 1 egg or slug

hows that old saying go?

oh yeh, dont count your eggs before they hatch

haha i speak the truth sir, kinda sucks sometimes. im hoping that girl that didnt lay last year lays this year, since she got a black pastel boyfriend lol

Ya I know all the risks! Everything in life is by chance so breeding is no different! Good luck with that girl!!!
