Temps
Ok, i got the UTH and a thermostat earlier, got the temp probe undersubstrate in one hide, I have temp set to low and inside hide temp is like 100, Is that ok???? Outside temp in the 90's
-
No 100 is waaaay to high. How are you measuring your temps?

Re: Temps
temp gauge witha prob. I am using paper towels, have the mat on bottem of plastic tub, with duck tape, then probe taped on inside bottom, then paper towel substrate, then hide on top of that, he laying on top of prob hide.

Re: Temps
Wierd temp dont seem that high, seems wrong, using a temp guage from zoo med, i guess i could move probe to see if it reads diff?

Re: Temps
Help, plz... temp staying around 100 but cant tell if its because its taped to pad.

First 100º is way to high 94 at the most but I'd recommend less than that 92 no higher. The reason is that most cheap thermometers are not very accurate no better that 2 degrees -+ IR guns are about the same unless you spend serious bucks on them. (100+)
Don't place any TAPE INSIDE the enclosure use silicone or hot melt glue (let it cool before returning the snake) Not Tape.
Are you using a 500r thermostat or is it a rheostat one? The 500r should be able to go cooler the rheostat too but it depends on the wattage of the pad. Try this for a quick fix remove the pad from the tub and leave a small air space between the tub and pad that should reduce the temp until you can figure out what is wrong.
I will always recommend a proportional thermostat as the most valuable part of any set up many will argue with me over that but that is my opinion. You can set the temp on one and it will feather the power to the heating unit to maintain the correct temp. It will also handle variations in the space that casual keepers often have. Rheostats won't they require steady room temps to work.

Re: Temps
Ok, temp went down into lower 90's once i removed tape, just have prob sitting under substrate for now , Seems to be coming down.
Yes i am using the Rheostats.

The tape was probably creating a heat bubble, so all the air got trapped and re-heated, giving you a bad reading.

Re: Temps
Yeah, it stabilzed at 96 at low setting which is still too high, gonna try lifting the tank off the pad a bit.
-
Re: Temps
K sry if im being a pain :(, I got the temp inside the hide to a steady 94 degress, ambient temp at 85 on heat pad side and 81 or soo on other end, Is that a good temp.
-
Not too bad, I'd still suggest a bit lower if you can to cover the deviation of the thermometer. The rest sounds fine. I would suggest that if you have really radicle temperature variations a lot to get a Tstat or place the enclosure in an area where the temps are stable around 80 then work on setting the UTH and rheostat.
If you are decide that a Thermostat is in your budget I'd look at the bottom model Herpstat (spyderrobotics) or the Helix (helixcontrols). They are both about 100 bucks (herpstats just went on sale I believe I am not sure what models....) They are a no worry type of device set them and done.

I second that!! Spyder robotics is awesome and takes away that ..."omg....I gotta check the temp" every hour.

Re: Temps
O I will def. look into them, budget wise probably after christmas, Kids have big dreams this year lol, for now i dont mind checking on him, I am gonna move him to my bedroom though since it has alot less traffic, I actually lifted th tub on both side so there is some airflow and temp now stabilized at 93.5 give or take a few.

Re: Temps
put the probe inbetween the heat matt and the tub...not in the tub....like this the mat tape the probe to the mat aluminum tape works good than tape the matt to the tub...this will get a better reeding on of the mat should bring the temp down a few deg

Re: Temps
and dont leave the probe not held down in the tub...if the snake moves the probe off the pad the pad can get very hot
