    I has done it :D
Max and I prekilled the rodents we bought today. It wasn't as bad as I imagined, and actually I think it was a better death than getting strangled by the snakes.
All snakes took the P/K food readily. :)
And, best of all, none of my babies were hurt. :gj:
Thanks for the suggestions you guys. BP.net is the best. :)
I see donations in your future from Max and I. You are all wonderful.
    Thanks again! :)

Which method did you use to prekill?

Try F/T next, even easier ;)

yea.. I do F/T.. just set it out for a hour then hit it with a hairdrier to give it that false warmth.. and they nail it!

Unfortunately, the reason she is doing P/K is because a live rat hurt one of her babies pretty good, and her mom won't tolerate F/T in the house.

I for one am very glad that it worked out for you Shellie, now you don't have to worry about someone getting bitten again.

    shelliebear,
I didn't want to say it on the help thread but I was thinking it. Rats will defend themselves. How is the little fellow doing? I hope he is well!! A small freezer in my area isn't very much cash I think about 60 bucks perhaps if your mom objects to frozen rats next to the ice cream (Not really that unreasonable) A small separate freezer tucked in some dark corner with just rats might not be so bad. Just a thought.
I really hope you snake that was bit is ok!

Haha, i usually have rats on top of my ice cream and waffles, no worries!!

Glad she ate it, i would say 95% of the time a live eater will take a fresh killed rat, it's just as good.

I have fed live and pre-killed with CO2. I can tell you that a rodent can survive over a minute with no oxygen. This is certainly not true of every kill but actual scientific studies have shown that the snake can exert enough pressure to stop the heart from beating. I have certainly had "bad kills" where the rodent took over a minute to die, but for the most part the rodents last under a minute. Just some food for thought.

Well I guess I didn't kill it so much as I most likely stunned it. I whacked the back part of its' neck against a pretty sharp corner on my wall (watched some Youtube videos on this), and it was either paralyzed or dead. I didn't check for a heartbeat, I just wanted to get it to my snake before it went cold. :D
I'm allowed to have F/T pinkies in the freezer for my cornsnake, and maybe one small F/T mouse (maybe), but they have to be in the side-panel on the inside of the freezer door where no one puts anything, and where my mom doesn't have to touch the boxes of rodents to grab anything.
She started crying today when I hit the rats on the wall, lol, I think it upset her a lot, but then I pulled Nergal out and reminded her how sad that was. :( I understand rats will defend themselves--and they should. But I don't want my BP to get hurt either.
I love rodents, and if I had a pet rat that would only eat snakes, I'd do the same for them. I just don't want anybody getting hurt.
Nergal seems to be doing ok. We're making a vet appointment for tomorrow or Thursday and my mother in law is going to pay for it (long story, but the funds I had saved in the bank have been borrowed by my parents for a family crisis, probably won't be seeing that back for a while...). So he will be seeing a vet and I'll let you know how my little guy is after that.
He's not just a snake to me....all my snakes are mah babies. :) Max's too. Especially since I love to take care of things, and I'm too young to have kids--so when I want to mother something, I grab one of my snakes and hold them for a while. It feels awesome...especially since when I want to put them down, they don't cry for 2 hours :D :D :D
But yeah, Nergal seems ok. :) I'm hoping the vet can assess his injuries and let me know what to do. I've been dabbing the cut on top of his head with polysporin, the clear kind. The only neosporin we have is the white kind. :/
    Thanks so much guys :D

Check craigslist for a small chest freezer. It should only be $40-50. But if Nergel(I hope his bone marrow cancer can get treated and he can get cured :() needs a vet app. That takes the cake :D

    Utta...you are awesome :D :D :D
(I hope his leukemia gets treated, also; apparently lots of fans who are a potential match are donating marrow to him. You likes Behemoth also? :D :D :D )
Yes, I've been looking for several things on Craigslist, so I will definitely keep an eye out for a small freezer. That is a good idea. Do they take up much power? I have so many cords in my room for UTH and fans and what not. ;-; it's a mess. I account for like half the electric bill, ugh

Thank you ;) yes, I love behemoth. *points out avatar* *points out my pictures of me on other fourms* me=metalhead.

Newer freezers don't use much power. Older ones use a little more, but I don't think much more. So it wouldn't be a huge increse. You can also get an upright freezer for more space.
