    pet stores
It seems that a lot of people have a problem with pet stores. And I understand a lot of it.

But my question is how many of us got our start with a pet store?

I got started in a small store named JOE's Aquarium

I started before i was in a Pet-Store researching, but then i got a job at PetSmart and then the fever hit and i've own countless snakes and mammals in all this time. Each pet store has the same goal, to sell animals, but some just choose to do it better than others with the customer having more piece of mind. Some pet stores out there give us all a bad name, but tis the name of the game!

i bought my first bp from petsmart and it will be the last one i buy from there only because i dont want any more normal babies i bought 1 cinny from a local breeder then my spider and pastel from RoyalConstrictors.com but if i buy from a local pet store again it will probably be from the only one that i have seen house snakes correctly in seperate tubs and not 5-6 adults per cage this store actually had many rack systems and i was very impressed looking forward to purchasing my hog islands from him in the future

i started out with a petstore and id still buy my snakes from them if they was open. they was very good. I delt with them so much all i had to do was go in there and say i want this snake and theyd make it sold till i paid them the money for it, or theyd order whatever snake i wanted all id half to do is ask. theres another that opened up and ive talked to the owner probably 30-40 mins on the phone they seem to have a good background so see how it goes.

I worked for petsville when I was in high school, that is why I avoid them generally, it depends on the store but most of the ones around me are the same cash over life.

I don't have a problem with pet stores. I have a problem with BAD pet stores. The main goal of a pet store may be to sell animals, but a decent number of them, especially family-owned, do honestly care about the animals' welfare.

Chains on the other hand, you have to be careful. The only reason I bought mine from PetSmart is that the person in charge of caring for the reptiles is an alumnus from my school, which is a marine biology academy and there are reptile enclosures all over the place.

The first ball python that I ever owned was from a pet store. It was in a glass enclosure with about three other bp's. It had mites and was not feeding consistently. I now have two other bp's. I got my male from a breeder and the other one is unsexed thus far and I got it from craigslist. This snake was severely under fed and dehydrated. I brought it home, set it up in the appropriate enclosure in quarantine and now it is feeding great and looks to be doing pretty well.
