I'm so tired of hearing about people getting into breeding balls
-
Great pictures! The one with the snake and the ducks is so cute.

It does my heart good to hear that there are still people that simply enjoy Keeping them as pets.
Great Pics by the way..

I've thought about it, but probably won't breed. Collecting my favorite morphs is good enough :)
Awesome pictures. The one with the muscovy ducks is very cute :D

Re: I'm so tired of hearing about people getting into breeding balls
I don’t understand the meaning of this post, are you saying people shouldn’t breed ball pythons? If that is the case I really don’t understand. Keeping snakes is a hobby and everyone has their own way of doing things. Personally for me I do plan on breeding my snakes but first and foremost they are pets and are cared for with as much love and dedication as any of my furry pets.
They are fed weekly, handled on a regular basis and have access to great vet care should they need it. I never plan on being a BHB or a NERD. I want to selectively breed, what I believe to be good example of their individual morphs. I don’t even expect to make any profit; I only hope to maybe offset some maintenance cost. I really don’t understand the large breeders who discourage people like me from breeding. I plan on only selling good quality healthy animals at a price people can afford. I will never even be considered competition; the only thing I think of that would make them dislike the smaller breeder is that, the more small breeders there are the further the prices drop. However that has always been the trend in the reptile industry, look at corns, Hondo’s, leopard geckos, etc. Unfortunately the pastel BP that was worth $2000.00 as a hatchling 10 years ago is now only worth $125.00.
The bottom line is that if a person is breeding only for the money, they shouldn’t do it. If a person is breeding animals they care for and treat properly then who is say anything about it. Also something you need to keep in mind is the learning curve and about 20-30% of the people who say they are going to breed really are. It’s a pain in the butt to breed reptile’s, incubators are a stress in and of themselves, so maybe one or two clutches and a lot of people give up. Then you have the babies who won’t eat and that’s even worse than the incubator problems.
People who do breed BP’s, enjoy it and produce quality animals should not be judged harshly or looked at as back yard breeders, because if all the BP’s came from a place like NERD (Kevin forgive me ) not too many people could afford to have them.
Ok, I am done ranting.
Very nice pic's by the way

Nice pics!
Breeders do help take some of the pressure off of the wild population of BP's. Something to think about...

Why do you care if I breed my snakes? It's not like it effects you in anyway shape or form.

With people breeding ball pythons it not only helps alleviate the pressure on the wild populations, what with all the wild-caught specimens, but it also helps raise awareness about snakes when there are smaller scale breeders and people who are a part of the general public who breed them and are knowledgeable about them than just going to petsmart and getting a snake with a bad caresheet and that's all.

Where I live, good balls are still a rarity, and in here, Ball pythons are much more expensive than in the US.
I bred mine not for profit. It's so I can get morph combos which I cannot afford or don't have yet.
These are 2 of my babies which I wouldn't be able to get with reasonable or affordable price if I didn't breed my pastel to my bee.

Re: I'm so tired of hearing about people getting into breeding balls
I believe the OP was just trying to say that there hasn't been any posts not related to breeding recently...could be wrong though. I don't think anybody has anything against people breeding ball pythons.
-
I think everyone should get off her case. Most of you people took a post with barely 1 sentence and turned it into a 3-4 paragraph rant.
That's uncalled for to say the least.
Nice snakes Mindibun.

Gorgeous pictures! I love the one where the two are periscoping. :D

THIS. I'm pretty sure OP was just making a fun title, and eveyrone got their underwear in a twist.
OP - Great photos, you know how I know you're in Florida? Those damn ducks! They are the most annoying type of ducks in the entire world. LOL Love the pics though! And great looking normals. :)
-
Nice Muscovies! :D (Those are Muscovies, aren't they?)
And for those jumping on the OP -- I can see how new breeders in particular might take offense at her post title and that lone sentence may seem a bit self-righteous out of context, but I highly highly doubt that that was her intention. It seems to me as though she was just showing off her snakes in a purely "pet" context, without any underpinnings of their future potential as baby-factories.* For me, this is actually a great thing to hear as I think a future ball python market depends on keeping our "base market" -- the PET owners -- vibrant, interested and enthusiastic and not making them feel "left out" because they aren't in on the breeding game.
Go pet owners! Thank you OP for posting pictures of your happy pet snakes (and their poultry buddies).
* Note: This is meant as a tongue-in-cheek statement ... Did I mention that all the animals I post pictures of are future breeders?

I understand the frustration with every other person asking things like "What's a ball under $100 that I can buy that will make me money next year?!?!?!" and the illusions of money making with the price of hets vs. visuals and whatnot. However, I do take offense to the title of the thread. As someone who's trying to get into breeding, I'm doing it for fun, and to make morphs that I otherwise wouldn't be able to afford, and having someone say something like that makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong or distasteful.
If the topic comes up elsewhere on the forum (Quarantine Room...) I'll probably have more to say, but I wanted to explain somewhat why some people might react to this negatively. It is not a "fun" title, and pics are unrelated, so I can't really believe that the OP didn't expect angry responses. There's nothing wrong with keeping BPs as pets! But it isn't a bad thing to breed them for pleasure either

Re: I'm so tired of hearing about people getting into breeding balls
It's funny how everyone is still trying to interpret what was meant by the OP's comment, yet she hasn't posted since the thread was started? Until she decides to post her opinion/reasoning behind the remark...I would deem all these comments pointless. We have no idea what she meant by it.
