basic needs: 10 gallon, screen top, UTH, thermometer(s)/ hygrometer, 3 hides (one over hot spot, one on the cool side and another for the moist hide), can use a light fixture as well to keep ambient temps up.

My big boy is in a 20 gal. long, tiles over his UTH and paper towels for the rest of the floor. Cave hide on the tiles, log hide on the cool side, Tupperware container in the middle with paper towels (moist hide), a cap from a 1 liter bottle of pop with water in it, and a cap from a regular sized bottle of pop with calcium in it. There is also a small ceramic bowl from my sisters dead hamster that is good for keeping large mealworms from escaping.

    There are 3 choices
    1. a dimmer from a hardware store
    2. a rheostat: http://www.petmountain.com/product/r...-rheostat.html
    3. a thermostat: there are many choices to choose from but if you have a limited budget a cheap choice is http://www.petmountain.com/product/r...ermometer.html but its best for only 1 UTH (I have found they have a hard time keeping 2 separate UTH's at similar temps)

I'll get a pic of my guy's set up. It's really simple but I plan on getting some decor for him :]

Ok:banana: and which one would you recomend?

I personally used the ReptiTemp 500R because it is cheap but controls the heat better than the rheostat.
I have my light plugged in 24/7 and then I have the uth plugged into the thermostat so that his tiles are heated.

Sweet set up:gj: Were do you get you Calcuim and D3?

You can get calcium with or without D3 from most pet stores. I used calcium without D3 in his calcium bowl and dust his mealies with a leopard gecko supplement every meal. He has been doing fine and has had not problems since I got him over a year ago.

Are you getting a full grown leo or a baby?

A healthy, well-established adult with a thick tail would help bypass some potential issues. Though it may be fun to watch it grow from a hatchling/juvenile to an adult. Leopard Geckos are pretty hardy. I think either way is fine as long as you purchase a healthy animal from a reputable source.

What LGL said, as long as it is healthy there shouldn't be too much of a difference.

With a baby you get the chance to watch it grow, see the changes in the patten and in a sense you get to know it. It can also help with how it handles being held. My leo is approx. 3 years old and the previous owner hardly held him but took care of him. So he is healthy but doesn't care to be held. But otherwise his temperament is wonderful :)
