Snakes Eating in Blue?
Just curious.....I have a pastel male who eats EVERY time, even in shed(blue). The first time, I wasn't even going to try, but he was cruising so hard, I offered and he never hesitated. And he hasn't since, either. I was just curious how many of you guys also had snakes that eat in blue? My philosophy is, if he'll eat it, feed it:)

The girl i got from a family who couldn't take care of her anymore barely fed her at all. Now she's a monster and will eat everything in sight, no matter what level or stage she is in shed. Some snakes just don't care and just the smell gets them rolling.

There are a few I can ALWAYS count on to eat, like the Mojave & Spider, and of course the corn snakes... my corns can be completely blind/opaque, and will still bump around to find that mouse & devour it. I've learned who eats in shed by now, and I also know who will refuse - so I don't even bother offering to those snakes. Sometimes they surprise me, though, like when Rosalind pounded a live rat on Tuesday while in shed. She's kinda 50/50 with that, but this week she had NO hesitation!

Re: Snakes Eating in Blue?
I would say that 90% of my collection eats while in shed regardless of the stage.

I used to offer and it was a hit or miss so I don't offer any food while they're in blue any longer.

All of my snakes will eat even if they are ridiculously blue in the eyes. :) Even my little BP who is only like 2 months old. :P

Re: Snakes Eating in Blue?
My male will not touch the prey when he is in the blue stage so I have stopped offering food to him while is in shed.

Re: Snakes Eating in Blue?
I am new here so hope it is alright for me to post on this. I am just agreeing that snakes eating in different stages of shed can be normal. I freaked the first time it happened to me but after as many snakes as I have seen eat in the blue I kind of just laugh :)

I offer, but mine is 50/50 on whether he takes it or not.

Re: Snakes Eating in Blue?
My snake is a real food addict. He always eats in blue, and I'm pretty sure that if I were to give him a constant supply of mice, he would be eating non-stop.

my girl eats every time, even in shed.

I currently have a 2010 female cinnamon and a 2010 male BEL that eat in blue with no hesitation. Gotta love those great responses

Re: Snakes Eating in Blue?
I don't offer my snake food when he's opaque because he is sometimes picky about when he eats anyway. I may need to get a better hide for him- pretty sure that's the main issue. Anyway, can't see how feeding a snake in shed could be harmful. I just don't :)

Re: Snakes Eating in Blue?
My female is an absolute PIG and she'll eat every time - shed or no shed, even in deep blue. She'd eat every day of the week if I let her. Just goes to show how all our bp's are different! :P

Re: Snakes Eating in Blue?
I know the books say they wont, but they do. Maybe not all will eat in shed but so far mine dont care.
I even have a gravid female 2 weeks from laying and she ate last week, I will find out if she eats tomorrow. Ah the smell of Rat in the air.

I find that there is lots of contradictory information out there I usually look for two independent articles before I believe anything (independent not using the same or similar wording plagiarism is rampant on the net...) I too have seen article that will tell you that balls won't eat in shed or should not be fed in shed and others that say they will I like most of the posters find my four 3 will, one usually won't. I use the snake as a gauge, I pre-sent if they start nosing around at at all I'll offer if not I'll let it pass.
-
I also feed mine regardless of who is or isn't in shed. All of mine eat not matter what phase they are at.
-
WHen I started a long time ago keeping snakes, the common belief was NOT to feed in shed......they won't eat, don't waste the rat, it's not good for them, etc, etc....I always offer. If you eat it, fine. If you don't, that's OK, too, but at least you had a chance:)
It's interesting to me how theories and beliefs have changed so much over the years.
