    I'm so tried of IDIOTS!!
I do NOT like stupid people. NOT ONE BIT. Theres this guy on youtube talking out of his a$$ about snakes and how "most of them are dangerous". He stated to me clearly that "most snakes are dangerous...and thats a fact" in those exact words. He said to me that venom is a "disease" (like cancer leprosy etc) and that we need to cure this disease called venom. WHAT??! Venom is a substance, its modified saliva designed to kill the snakes prey so it can eat it. Its not a disease.

He also claimed that we should kill all snakes and save some of their venom for research. Ok then, what happens when you RUN OUT OF VENOM TO RESEARCH???! You can't just go out and collect some more! You know why? BECAUSE THEIR ALL DEAD!!! I mean COME ON! How can you be that stupid? I told him that there are over 3000 species of snake in the world, and that only 200 are actually capable of killing a man. He said "200 is a big number mate, thats a lot you idiot" Thats 200 out of THREE THOUSAND SNAKES!! 200 snakes that are venomous in the ENTIRE WORLD. Thats NOT a lot.

I keep trying to point out that DOGS kill more people a year than snakes. He says to me back "why are you talking about dogs were talking about snakes moron". Wha- what?!!! I'm pointing out that dogs kill more people a year than snakes because you seem to think that snakes are a major threat to the human race when in fact they are NOT! MILLIONS of things kill people. Why are you just picking on snakes?

I told him you can look this stuff up on the internet and books. I didn't just pull this info out of my a$$. I try to me pateint with him but I am wuickly losing it. I'm about to rip him a new one. Maybe I should just stop, but then again, its fun ripping apart his arguments on a public world wide forum

Anyway, this guy is an idiot.

    That it is all.

Wait, one more thing. Is there anything you would like to share about someone you have argued with about snakes online? If so, please post them as a reply. Thanks.

I get into the seeing het argument a lot. (I'll probably get a PM about it because I mentioned it). If you have a book on reptile genetics sitting on your desk and you have read it, I'll have the argument with you. If I hear "pied markers" as a reference to a visual het one more time, I'm going to flip.

(btw, I wouldn't use the term 'idiot' in reference to the people I have this argument with. In fact, I will freely admit that they probably know more than I do when it comes to reptiles.)

Why?... You dont think a phenotypic response can arrise when a certain genotype is present?

Scientists use this occurence in research on a regular basis. They splice a "glowing" gene that causes the organisms, usually bacterium, to glow when a certain gene is turned on. Its a phenotypic repsonse according to a genotypic response.

You think you could go to a reptile show and identify hets without knowing the breeding pair? :colbert:

Genotype codes for the phenotype, so yes, that's exactly what happens. I think you're missing the broader stance of my statement. I'm not saying that in a lab, an unexpressed gene could not be identified. I'm saying that online or in person, you could not identify what unexpressed genes a snake is carrying by simply a visual reference.

What would be the response to someone posting a thread titled, "New BP, what is he/she het for?"

Are you wrong often or is it just here?

I'd guess that a good percentage of the members of this site who have more than a dozen or so snakes, have hets that carry visual identifiable regularly seen markers that are an indication of the trait they carry.

Maybe you can't tell hets from normals and I'm not saying that all hets have markers, but your statement is wrong. There are some who can, some that do, and the proof is in the babies.

Perhaps idiots was not the best word to use.

Wow...ummm...how does a rant about arguing with someone who insists on drowning themselves in their ignorance about snakes immediately turn into an argument about whether or not recessive hets can be visually identified? It's almost as if the database accidentally merged two random threads.

Psst....Justin Kobylka recognized het pied markers on a CH female he purchased as an import. He trusted his instincts, and held back a pastel from her with similar markers and created his own line of pieds - pastel pieds as a matter of fact.

So yes, to those who have been doing this long enough - they can recognize certain markers, and even prove them out. ;)

I guess I'm not making myself clear.

So you're all in agreement that het pied markers are a sure thing then? Guess it's a sure thing then. :gj:

It's not only Pieds, but yes it is a factor, but not all snakes show it. What about Yellow Belly? Its Het for Ivory, but always shows a sign of it. Also Het Russo Leucistics have a look to them you can't miss.

All I'm saying is, yes it's possible.

Visual hets are the definition of codominant when talking about ball pythons. Technically, pastels are "het" for super pastels (also known as opals once upon a time) but no one calls them het opal or het super pastel. The reason they are known as codominants is because 100% of the time you know what you are going to get (or have the possibility of getting) when breeding certain animals together.

There are normals with the "pied markers. There are genetically 100% heterozygous piebalds that do not have "pied markers" this means it is not a true codominant and therefor not a "visual het" like yellow bellies, pastels, lessers or any codominant gene.

Justin Kobylka is not the average ball python owner, he is (from what I understand) extremely experienced in keeping and breeding these animals and took a chance with one and had it turn out beneficially for him. Not every "average-joe" will have that happen.

Not to be a pedantic jerk, but if you're going to rant about someone being an idiot/stupid, it helps to use correct spelling and grammar through out your post ;)

    Just sayin'...
